    Abstract: Reshaping can be used to better exploit the sample value distribution of video data. When reshaping is used inside the coding loop, forward mapping is applied to prediction signals from intra or inter prediction, and inverse mapping is applied to reconstructed signals. To simplify the inverse mapping operations, in one embodiment, the inverse mapping function is modelled as a piece-wise linear function, and each line segment is defined on an equi-distant interval of a length equal to a power of 2. In this embodiment, the inverse mapping function is specified by the number of pieces, initial offset value and the slope for each piece. In one example, the slope parameters can be signaled directly in the bitstream. In another example, an initial estimate of the slope parameters can be obtained from the forward mapping function, and the difference between the initial estimate and the actual parameters are signaled.

    Abstract: Different implementations are described, particularly implementations for video encoding and decoding based on wherein the partitioning tree structure is partially shared between luma and chroma blocks are presented. According to an implementation, a single partitioning tree structure is shared between luma and chroma blocks from a root node of the partitioning tree down to a switching node and a dual partitioning tree structure is determined for luma and chroma blocks from the switching node down to a leaf node of the partitioning tree. Thus, this implementation optimizes the coding efficiency by allowing separated trees for smaller blocks, while limiting the complexity of decoding pipeline.

    Abstract: A block of video data that is split into sub-blocks forms a prediction for that sub-block using predictions from neighboring sub-blocks such that a current prediction for the sub-block is combined with weighted versions of the neighboring predictions. The neighboring sub-blocks motion vectors are checked to determine whether they are different than the motion vector of the sub-block being predicted. If so, than that corresponding neighboring sub-block is used to generate the prediction of the current sub-block. In an embodiment, two lines or two columns of pixels within a sub-block are used in forming the prediction for the current sub-block when the size of the block containing the sub-block is under a particular size.

In one exemplary embodiment, the composite reference array is formed from two or more reference arrays of a plurality of reference arrays. The composite reference array can be formed by projecting along a prediction direction, one or more of the plurality of reference arrays onto a reference array closest to the block of the video data being encoded or decoded. The filter coefficients for the interpolation filter are then determined based on the locations of the predictors on different reference arrays. Interpolating reference samples from different reference arrays, the predictor value for a target sample can be obtained.
