Abstract: A tamper-resistant certification device receives a certified digital time stamp from a trusted third party, resets a time function and produces a time stamp receipt in an on-line mode; The tamper-resistant certification device receives a digital file from a mobile computing device, and produces a certified digitally signed digital file including a copy of the digital file, time stamp receipt and temporal offset in an off-line mode to evidence the content of the digital file within a defined tolerance of a day and/or time. A processor may be portioned into tamper and non-tamper resistant portions.
Abstract: Access to a license protected asset is limited by storing license information associated with the asset on at least one radio frequency identification (RFID) tag. Access to the asset is allowed only upon successful retrieval and verification of the license information by a device having at least one RFID reader.

Abstract: An improved display screen flicker detection and correction system. The system includes a flicker detection component. A test pattern is placed on a display screen to be tested and corrected. The flicker detection component is placed on or near the display screen. The flicker detection component senses the change in light level that results from the flickering screen. The display system is then adjusted to minimize flicker.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for creating a single, common installation file for multiple target device types. In one approach, the method comprises providing a base engine, compiling the engine into an intermediate language code, and just-in-time compiling the intermediate code into executable code. The latter code is executed to gather the appropriate data sets and concatenate the data sets with the engine to form the installation file. The present invention also provides a method and system for utilizing the installation file to retrieve the appropriate data set(s) for the identified target device type, and to install the retrieved data set(s) onto the target device.

Abstract: A zoom lens assembly comprises a first optical component, a second optical component, and an actuator. The actuator comprises a shape memory material that changes its shape in response to electrical or thermal fields to change the distance between the first and second optical components.

Abstract: A shipping and tracking system has a number of tracking stations that are geographically distributed. The tracking stations gather information from shipping items processed by the shipping and tracking system. The shipping and tracking system provides an enhanced level of security for selected shipping items. The enhanced level of security for the selected shipping items is based at least on the information gathered at the tracking stations. The enhanced security is provided in such a way that personnel of the shipping and delivery system cannot physically discern whether or not a shipping item is being shipped with enhanced security.
Abstract: A Write Broadcast system and method uses a base station to write sent data to all or some selected number (sub group) of tags in a base station field simultaneously. By unselecting the tags that have been successfully written to, and requesting a response from the remaining tags in the field (or sub group), the system determines, by receiving a response to the request, that there are tags in the field (sub group) that were unsuccessfully written to. Another Write Broadcast signal is sent to these tags. The system is useful for quickly (simultaneously) “stamping” information on the tag memory of a large number of tags in the field of the base station.

Abstract: A content applicator for selectively processing media received by the content applicator. The content applicator includes a print station having a print station protector subsystem. When the print station is in a print offline mode, the print station protector subsystem protects at least one component of the print station from degradation caused by media being received by the print station while the print station is in print offline mode.
Abstract: An RFID tag is equipped with an energy sensor for receiving an appropriate energy signal or registering an appropriate temperature/environmental level. The RFID tag only responds to a query from an RFID reader if the sensor receives the appropriate stimulation.
Abstract: A computing device that includes at least one input/output device automatically configures itself based on acquired data the represents a geographic position of the computing device. The computing device acquires environment identification data and performs at least one of a configuration command and a power state command on the input/output device based on the acquired environment identification data.
Abstract: Spatial antenna diversity is used with RFID tags to reduce sensitivity to multi-path fading. RFID tags can use a single multi-port chip or multiple multi-port chips. The ports of the chip or chips are coupled to separated feedpoints on one or more antennas.

Abstract: A system and method for identifying erasures in a 2D symbol is disclosed. One embodiment of a method for marking a codeword as an erasure in a Quick Response code (QR code) captured by a bar code reader includes, identifying the scrambling mask used for encoding the data in the QR code. A location of the codeword in the QR code corresponds with a portion of the scrambling mask. The codeword comprises multiple codeword bits and the portion of the scrambling mask comprises multiple mask bits. The method further includes, generating an unscrambled codeword by performing a logical operation between each of the multiple codeword bits and each of the multiple mask bits, generating a reference matrix by applying the scrambling mask to a uniform matrix, and/or comparing the unscrambled codeword with the reference matrix to determine whether the codeword is the erasure.
Abstract: An information handling apparatus, and a method, having a plurality of wireless communication systems is disclosed. The apparatus can include three radio-frequency communication components. In another embodiment, the device can include four wireless communication systems. In one embodiment, the communication systems can communicate simultaneously.
Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) device with two or more antennas may select one antenna to backscatter or otherwise transmit, while deriving power from receipt of a carrier wave at one or more other antennas. The RFID device may select the antenna receiving the lower power or producing the lower voltage to transmit. The RFID device may select the antenna receiving the higher power or producing the higher voltage to transmit if the lower power or voltage is insufficient to operate the RFID device to backscatter or transmit. The RFID device may select neither antenna to transmit if the higher power or voltages are insufficient to operate the RFID device to backscatter or transmit.
