Patents Assigned to International Business Machines Corporation (IBM)
  • Patent number: 7318194
Abstract: A representation of a markup language data such as XML expressed as a sequence of encoded items provides a data format including a type field containing i) a construct type identifying a type of markup language data construct to which the encoded item corresponds or, ii) a directive type identifying directive information concerning a processing characteristic associated with the sequence of encoded items. If the type field contains a construct type, the encoded item includes i) a length field containing a size of construct data associated with the markup language data construct to which the encoded item corresponds and ii) a value field identifying construct data associated with the markup language data construct to which the encoded item corresponds. For a directive type, the encoded item includes a directive value supplementing the directive information concerning a processing characteristic associated with the sequence of encoded items.

  • Publication number: 20070123028
Abstract: Methods of forming low-k dielectric layers for use in the manufacture of semiconductor devices and fabricating semiconductor structures using the low-k dielectric material. The low-k dielectric material comprises carbon nanostructures, like carbon nanotubes or carbon buckyballs, that are characterized by an insulating electronic state. The carbon nanostructures may be converted to the insulating electronic state either before or after a layer containing the carbon nanostructures is formed on a substrate. One approach for converting the carbon nanostructures to the insulating electronic state is fluorination.

  • Patent number: 7202186
Abstract: Ultra-thin oxynitride layers are formed utilizing low-pressure processing to achieve self-limiting oxidation of substrates and provide ultra-thin oxynitride. The substrates to be processed can contain an initial dielectric layer such as an oxide layer, an oxynitride layer, or a nitride layer, or alternatively can lack an initial dielectric layer. The processing can be carried out using a batch type process chamber or a single-wafer process chamber.

  • Publication number: 20050180038
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for copying data to one or more recording media devices. In one embodiment, the method includes a step of specifying a data set group consisting of multiple, individually identified data sets within a task control table. The data set group specification preferably includes listing multiple data set identifiers each corresponding to one of the multiple data sets in a specified sequence within the task control table. Each of n mutually unique processing task identifiers are assigned within the task control table to a first n of the data sets in the specified sequence. The processing task identifiers correspond to one or more processing tasks having instructions for copying an assigned data set to a recording media device. The method further includes executing the processing tasks in accordance with the data set identifier sequence within the task control table.

  • Publication number: 20050071550
Abstract: A data storage control unit is coupled to one or more host devices and to one or more physical storage units, the physical storage units collectives configured as a plurality of logical storage ranks. The storage control unit receives and processes write requests from the host devices and directs that data updates be stored in a temporary storage. The data updates are subsequently destaged to the logical ranks. Write requests are processed at a predetermined rate relative to the rate at which destages are performed (destage mode or rate). The storage control unit evaluates workload conditions of the temporary storage and modifies the destage mode if the temporary storage is in danger of becoming backlogged or if an actual backlog is created, thereby applying a “throttle” to the host write requests. Thus, method, apparatus and program product are provided to dynamically modify a level of throttling whereby through-put of a host device is substantially maintained.

  • Publication number: 20050055602
Abstract: A method for initiating a data storage facility recovery process in a data processing system having a first peer data storage facility and a second peer data storage facility communicating with the first peer data storage facility by a communication link. The method of initiating a recovery process is invoked by one peer data storage facility upon another peer data storage facility operating under a peer to peer remote copy (PPRC) protocol. Data copied from a first peer data storage facility to a second peer data storage facility is monitored for errors. Upon detection of an error by one peer data storage facility, recovery and data collection operations are initiated on the other peer data storage facility. Preferably, the initiation of recovery and data collection operations occurs out of band, over a second communication link between the peer data storage facilities.

  • Publication number: 20050038786
Abstract: A system is provided for accessing data in a database by automatically configuring database tables from within an application program. The system comprises a database, an application program and a table definition module. The database comprises one or more tables, each having one or more data columns. The application program comprises means for requesting access to a database table and means for executing an attempt to access the database table. The table definition module comprises means for intercepting an error message if the attempt to access the database table fails and means for attempting to correct a database table defect in response to the error message. The application program further comprises means for re-executing the attempt to access the database table following correction of the database table defect. Defects corrected by the table definition module may include an absent column, an absent table, and an undefined table.

  • Patent number: 5572405
Abstract: A thermally enhanced ball grid array package for electronic components, with an electronic and a plurality of ceramic component carriers bonded to a metal heat sink, enhances thermal performance, reduces solder ball fatigue and reduces stresses between the ceramic component carriers and the heat sink. Bonding the ceramic component carriers to the heat sink reduces expansion induced stresses of the solder balls on the carriers. Plural ceramic component carriers, smaller than a single carrier would have to be for the same package, reduce stresses at the interfaces between the ceramic component carriers and the heat sink.
