  • Patent number: 4406352
Abstract: A fluid motor moves a lever to turn a power screw mounted for rotation by a pair of axially spaced bushings. External threads on the power screw engage internal threads on an actuator and slide or translate the actuator and a piston in a brake-applying direction. A spring moves the piston in the opposite direction to a rest position. A cap fits over a medial flange of the power screw and has a spline connection with the actuator to prevent rotation of the actuator. Four bolts connect the fluid motor mounting bracket and the cap to a caliper which slides on parallel pins fixed to a torque plate secured to a vehicle axle.

  • Patent number: 4406362
Abstract: A lens case comprises an outer case member and a drawer with "left" and "right" contact lens wells slidable on the case member. Removable caps are friction fitted over each well, the caps also being hinged to the drawer. A foldout lid with a mirror is adapted for disposition over the caps. The arrangement is such that as the drawer is shifted to the closed position in the case member, a wall of the case applies pressure to the caps through the mirror or through tapered ribs on the caps to maintain the caps sealed on the wells.

  • Patent number: 4406049
Abstract: The subject invention conserves memory real estate by employing ROM cells which are FETs or non-FETs depending upon the programming. Each cell comprises a gate, a source and drain region and provision for connections to bit and word lines. Programming is achieved by a mask which permits doping of the source and drain regions to comprise FETs for the cells indicative of one state of logic while precluding doping of the source and drain regions to complete the channel in the cells comprising the other state of logic. Also, the FETs are fabricated, their contacts extending linearly between bit lines which are preferably diffused lines, and the word line making direct contact with gates of the linear cells. The process simplifies the number of steps required to manufacture the FETs and non-FETs by simply providing the programming after the basic cells are formed. Such unprogrammed structures may be inventoried and simply programmed i.e.

  • Patent number: 4406252
Abstract: The invention is a thin film alloy source utilizing a supply of alloy wire selected for deposition onto a substrate. The wire is advanced through an induction heating means at a controlled rate for evaporation onto the substrate. Detection of the meniscus height or temperature of the end of the wire being evaporated yields a control signal for operating the control wire feed mechanism for advancing the wire at a rate to provide a predetermined coating thickness.

  • Patent number: 4406469
Abstract: A self-energizing seal system employing plastically deformable nonelastomeric elements to establish sealing integrity between concentric, relatively movable tubular conduits is disclosed. The primary sealing element comprises a chevron-shaped thermoplastic virgin polytetrafluoroethylene member. A plurality of back-to-back primary sealing elements are employed, thus creating a relatively frictionless interface along which radial expansion of the chevron-shaped members can occur. Annular back up members of polyphenylene sulfide and glass-filled polytetrafluoroethylene are used to inhibit axial extrusion of the chevron-shaped sealing members during radial expansion thus promoting sealing integrity.

  • Patent number: 4405017
Abstract: This invention relates to an expendable tool, such as a plug assembly, which may be locked within a tubular member, such as a packer assembly, located within a well casing, and a method of locating and releasing same. The plug assembly comprises a main housing adapted to support a plurality of circumferentially spaced, radially retractable locking segments. A longitudinally extending mandrel is slidably mounted within the housing and is axially shiftable from an first position, wherein the mandrel maintains the locking segments outwardly within a cooperating groove formed in the packer assembly, to a second position, wherein the locking segments are permitted to move out of engagement with the well packer. A collet sleeve is secured to the mandrel by a shear pin and maintains the mandrel in the upper position. When it is desired to release the plug from the packer assembly, an actuating sleeve is attached to the lower end of a tubing string and run down the well casing to be engaged by the collet sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4405976
Abstract: An audio signal tracking power converter has a master converter and a slave inverter which are connected in parallel to a dc power source that is to be converted and provide a first and second ac output signal. The first ac signal and the second ac signal are combined and converted to a dc signal that tracks the input audio signal. The master inverter is controlled by a free-running pulse generator which pulse-width modulates the first portion of the dc power that is converted to the first ac signal. The slave inverter is pulse-width modulated by pulses that result from the comparison of the audio signal that is to be tracked and a reference signal generated from the pulses from the free-running pulse generator.

  • Patent number: 4403495
Abstract: An apparatus for bending an elongate member with a pair of spaced parallel planar flanges which normally extend from the planar web to form a channel section. The apparatus includes a platen shaped for close fitting engagement with the exterior web and flange faces of the elongate member in a region where the elongate member is bent. The platen also includes a counter-pressure member, one surface of which engages the exterior face of the web of the elongate member in the bending region. The counter-pressure member is capable of being selectively advanced or retracted within the platen. A movable head member shaped for close fitting engagement with the interior web and flange faces of the elongate member in the bending region has projections which apply a force in the bending region acting in the planes of the flanges on longitudinally spaced portions of the elongate member for relative displacement of the portions.

  • Patent number: 4403654
Abstract: A hanger assembly for use in a subterranean well incorporates a torque transmitting expansion joint providing a selectively adjustable extent of axial contraction. The expansion joint essentially comprises a telescopic inter-relationship of two sleeve assemblies. One sleeve assembly carries a fixedly mounted rectangular key which is engagable only with an axially extending slot provided in the other sleeve assembly. The first mentioned sleeve assembly also rotatably mounts a key which cooperates with a peripherally extending slot provided in the other sleeve assembly. The axial extending slot connects with a trough portion of the peripherally extending slot. Successive reciprocations of the two sleeve assemblies produce an incremental rotation of the round key around the peripherally extending slot and normally limits the extent of axial contraction of the two sleeve assemblies to the axial extent of such peripherally extending slot.

  • Patent number: 4403384
Abstract: A paint applicator for direct roll coating of textured panels or sheet-like members comprises a core, a layer of fibrous web material disposed over the core, a protective plastic tube member disposed around the layer of fibrous web material, and a layer of woven material disposed over the protective tube member. The fibrous web allows for uniform application of the paint film due to its softness and ability to follow contoured surfaces. The protective tube member prevents paint from penetrating the fiber web. The woven material carries the paint on the roll applicator.

  • Patent number: 4404520
Abstract: A circuit for measuring the Differential Absolute Delay Equalization between two data signals (each signal consisting of a data stream and its associated clock) is provided. The circuit generates an equalization error signal which is a composite of error signal and a pedestal voltage. The circuit also generates a replica of the pedestal voltage by taking the algebraic summation of the output of the comparison circuit and the complement of the output of the comparison circuit. The equalization error is the difference between the error signal and the replica pedestal voltage.
