Patent number: 6422670Abstract: A gaming machine, which provides improved player comfort, is provided with a housing including footrests. The footrests are disposed on opposite ends of the front portion of the housing near the bottom and may be integrally formed with the front portion of the housing. Normally standard gaming stools are provided with footrests which force a player to maintain a single position while playing a game. The integrated footrests in the housing of the gaming machine are disposed at a height relatively higher than the footrests in a standard gaming stool thus allowing a player to change positions and lean back to reduce fatigue.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2000Date of Patent: July 23, 2002Assignee: International Game TechnologyInventors: Joseph R. Hedrick, Jean Pierre Legras

Patent number: 6419583Abstract: In a gaming system, a central computer generates a plurality of game win-loss outcome stacks, each stack having at least one “win” (preferably, large-prize) outcome. Sub-stacks, from among the plurality of stacks, are transmitted to casino or other group controllers or computers, each casino controller being coupled to a plurality of gaming terminals. In response to placing a large-prize wager, in addition to normal, local game wager, a gaming terminal requests a large-prize outcome from the sub-stack which is stored in the casino controller. Whenever a casino controller's sub-stack is depleted, it requests a new sub-stack from the central computer. Preferably the central computer selects a new sub-stack for transmission according to a selection process which is weighted so as to maintain the ratio of winning outcomes to all outcomes in a predetermined range. When all sub-stacks of a given stack have been transmitted, the central computer generates a new stack to replace the depleted stack.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2000Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: International Game TechnologyInventors: Hardy Lee Crumby, Ali Saffari, Richard Pennington

Patent number: 6406023Abstract: A physical card game or electronically simulated card game is provided in which each of one or more players received cards which define two or more card hands, with at least one card in common. In one embodiment, the initial cards are arranged in a rectangular array with rows, columns and/or diagonals of the array defining the hands. Each hand can be played and/or evaluated using certain aspects of blackjack, poker or other traditional card game play or evaluation. At least some prizes or top winning outcomes for a round of play must include winning outcomes from at least two, and preferably from all, of the hands played by a given player. The relatively low odds of achieving highest-winning combinations on all hands makes it feasible to provide the game with relatively large prizes associated with such low-probability outcomes. In one embodiment, certain subcombinations of a player's cards, such as all initially-dealt cards, are evaluated for instant win combinations.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2000Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: International Game TechnologyInventor: Richard E. Patent number: 6368216Abstract: A gaming machine includes main and secondary displays. The secondary display is disposed apart from the primary display and is used for presenting primary, secondary, or even tertiary information. The main display is controlled electronically by a gaming machine controller, which main display presents the results of a play on the gaming machine. In the case of a slot machine, the main display may be the glass display through which the spinning reels of a game play are viewed. In a video poker gaming machine, the main display is usually a cathode ray tube (“CRT”) which displays a video game image to the player and other information directly associated with the game play. The secondary display may be provided at various locations on the gaming machine such as in a top glass portion of the gaming machine or a belly glass portion of the gaming machine, which belly glass portion is located below a main display portion of the gaming machine.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2000Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: International Game TechnologyInventors: Joseph R. Patent number: 6350193Abstract: A coin feeder mechanism for transporting coins from a coin hopper is disclosed. The coin feeder mechanism includes a shelfwheel having a peripheral edge, a pinwheel having a front face and a peripheral edge, and a plurality of pins extending from the front face of the pinwheel between the peripheral edge of the pinwheel and the peripheral edge of the shelfwheel. The pinwheel is rotatably mounted with respect to the shelfwheel and positioned adjacent thereto. The shelfwheel has a coin pick-up area and a coin delivery area. The peripheral edge of the shelfwheel is farther away from pins associated with the pinwheel at the coin pick-up area than at the coin delivery area. In one embodiment, the arrangement of the shelfwheel and pinwheel is accomplished by mounting the shelfwheel so that a center thereof is offset vertically upwardly from a center of the pinwheel.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2000Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: International Game TechnologyInventor: Craig A.
