  • Patent number: 8102240
Abstract: An access control system and method for controlling access to secured areas includes a plurality of local readers connected to corresponding local control devices for reading portable access devices. A system reader reads the portable access devices, and a system control device is electrically connected to the local control devices. The system control device controls access to a common secure area using the system reader by validating the portable access devices using one of the local control devices. The system control device locally stores information from the portable access device and the associated local control device which may include validation or authentication data received from the associated local control device, so that repeat validation of the portable access device can be communicated from the associated local control device.

  • Patent number: 8100280
Abstract: A collapsible laundry hamper comprising a collapsible frame and a panel member removably attached to the frame to enclose and define the hamper. The frame includes a top frame member, a bottom frame member, and a set of elongate upright frame members disposed therebetween. Each of the upright frame members comprises at least two sub-members. The members are biased into engagement with each other via a biasing member. The biasing member maintains the frame members in a rigid frame position. The members are capable of being pulled apart against the biased engagement provided by the biasing member and articulated to allow the frame to be placed into a collapsed position. When either one of the top frame member and the bottom frame member is pulled away from the other in the collapsed position, the frame is urged to return to the rigid frame position under the influence of the biasing members.

  • Patent number: 8103934
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for the detection and correction of memory errors using code words with a quantity, divisible by 4, of data bits, with an equal quantity of check bits, and having the check bits and data bits interleaved. Upon execution of a memory write instruction, a processor may send a memory word to a check bit generator that generates the check bits before the code word is written to a memory unit. Upon a signal from the processor that a memory read is requested, the memory unit may send a stored code word to a syndrome bit generator to generate a syndrome vector. The syndrome vector may then be sent to a correction bit generator and an uncorrectable error detector. These units may send corrected bits and an uncorrectable error signal, respectively, to the processor.

  • Patent number: 8100320
Abstract: A cooler carton for items such as beverage containers is erected from a blank. The erected carton has top panels forming a top with a central longitudinal perforation line and oblique cut-creases and perforation lines extending from ends of the central perforation line to corners of the top. Pulling up and back on flaps at end portions of the top severs the oblique cut-creases and perforation lines and severs the top along the central perforation line thereby opening the top and forming a containment skin that extends above the level of the items in the carton. Ice can then be added atop the items to cool their contents and the ice is contained by the skirt. Gussets are formed at lower corner portions of the carton and, along with a moisture barrier, prevent accumulated water from leaking from the bottom region of the carton.

  • Patent number: 8101047
Abstract: Ash composition measurements of calcium carbonate and gypsum in paper is accomplished with a dual X-ray sensor system with one X-ray source that is powered at about 5.9 KV and a second X-ray source that is powered at about 4.2 KV. Corresponding detectors measure radiation from the respective X-ray sources that is emitted from the paper. Data derived from the measurements yields the gypsum and crystal water content in the paper. The dual X-ray sensor system can be employed in conjunction with infrared total moisture measurements of paper products being manufactured on a papermaking making machine, which contain gypsum and calcium carbonate, in order to correct for the gypsum crystal water effect.
