Abstract: A combination fin-type mixer and rotor/stator-type homogenizer provides the ability to perform low-shear mixing or high-shear homogenizing by a single device without changing attachments or hardware. The low-shear mixing fins extend outwardly from the stator of the high-shear rotor/stator homogenizer, and the rotor rotates within the stator. For high-shear homogenizing, the rotor is rotated within the stator. And for low-shear mixing, the finned stator is selectively interlocked to and rotated with the rotor. A method of combining components includes resetting the device from low-shear mixing mode to high-shear homogenizing mode, and vice versa, without changing attachments or hardware.

Abstract: A flush poke-through fitting, with both electrical power and data communication access, includes a data jack face plate that can be replaced without disassembly of any other part of the fitting. The data jack face plate is also removable without disruption of power to the electrical outlets. Increased wiring space for flexibility in electrical outlet orientation and improved conductor organization during assembly is also provided by pins that support the electrical contacts in the electrical receptacle when assembled.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for ink-jet printing onto an intermediate drum in a helical pattern while correcting for image skew and aliasing. A plurality of ink-jet print heads place an image on an intermediate drum, impervious to ink, in a helical patter. To compensate for helical printing, the image is altered by nozzle placement and image manipulation to correct for skewing errors, and thereafter, the nozzle timing is adjusted to correct for aliasing. The plurality of print heads move parallel to the axis of rotation of the drum while the drum is simultaneously rotating, causing the image to be placed in a helical pattern. Once the entire image is placed on the drum, paper is rolled against the drum under pressure and the image is transferred thereto.

Abstract: A vehicle including a side impact crash sensor, a transfer structure interposed between the side of the vehicle and the sensor and an occupant restraint system such as a side impact airbag system. When an object strikes the side of the vehicle or vice versa, the transfer structure serves to transfer the lateral force from the side of the vehicle to the sensor and is designed so that it does not distort upon the application of the lateral force. The side impact crash sensor detects the force or acceleration applied to the side of the vehicle, and the airbag system connected to the sensor deploys an airbag based on the detected force or acceleration. The transfer structure may be constructed to account for mismatch between the point of impact of an object on the side of the vehicle and the location of the sensor.

Abstract: A method and system for managing broadband IP servers in a layer two broadcast network includes an intermediate system, an end system, and a control system. The service information is advertised by each end system (server) on the layer two network. The same service is provided by multiple end systems. The intermediate system forwards a service request packet to one of the available end systems, and the intermediate system learns the service advertisements from the end system. If the available end system decides to instruct an intermediate system to forward certain traffic from a certain source to the end system, the end system can advertise the flow information to intermediate systems. This flow could be an established TCP connection or any packets that are specified by pattern matching rules. The intermediate system always forwards the packet based on the flow that is advertised by the end system.

Cycle and shape parameters are derived from a recorded time trace containing heart rate data collected while an individual performs a cyclic exercise routine. Individually tailored exercise regimens that are based on these parameters are generated and modified as desired.
Abstract: A scanning system includes a cable take-up mechanism that uses a series of pulleys that determine the bend diameters of a scanning system. The mechanism is particularly suited for a spectrometric, e.g., infrared, scanning system where moving scanner or sensor head essentially houses only the optical elements while essentially of all the other electronic and optical components associated with the measurement are housed in an easily accessible compartment that is remote from the moving scanner head. Light is transmitted through optical fiber cables. The cable take-up mechanism maintains the fiber optic cable at essentially constant total bend length and bend diameter thereby minimizing any dynamic changes to spectral bend losses as the optical head is scanned. The light weight construction of the sensor head further reduces vibrations associated with the moving scanner head.

Abstract: Employment of one or more resealable access slots in a steam distributor apparatus affords easy access to the internal chambers of the apparatus for cleaning and maintenance. The access slots can be located on the lower walls of the steam discharge chambers where debris tend to aggregate during operation of the apparatus. The apparatus can have multiple discharge chambers that are separated by spaced-apart partitions or baffle panels. Steam that is supplied from a steam header to each chamber exits each chamber through perforations of a discharge screen plate that is permanently secured onto adjacent partition panels. Actuators can regulate the steam flow from the steam header to the individual discharge chambers thereby creating a steam curtain with uniform or non-uniform cross direction profiles as desired.
