Abstract: The present invention relates to a delivery device designed to be implanted in an animal and for the administration of a stabilized growth promoting formulation. This device has a wall formed at least in part by a porous membrane which surrounds and defines a reservoir. The reservoir contains a growth promoting hormone and a stabilizer. Examples of such stabilizers include certain polyols, amino acids, polymers of amino acids having a charged side group at physiological pH, and choline salts.
Abstract: An apparatus for separating larger foreign bodies from a granular feed including a conveyor for moving a mixture of the larger foreign bodies and the granular feed, is provided. The apparatus comprises a wheel having an axis of rotation, a circumference and a plurality of outwardly extending resilient fingers, preferably projecting at a trailing angle from the circumference. The wheel is mounted so that its plane forms an angle with respect to the direction of travel of the conveyor. The wheel is positioned so that the conveyed mixture contacts and pushes the fingers causing the wheel to rotate and the fingers to rake the larger foreign bodies from the mixture.
Abstract: A substantially dry method for making organophilic clays. Smectite clays, having a moisture content of less than 12% by weight are sprayed with an activator substance comprising about 1-10% by weight of the clay of a hydrophobic radical including those obtained from an "onium" base selected from a class consisting of ammonium, oxonium, sulfonium, arsonium, stibonium and telluronium. Organic amines and ammonium salts are preferred sources for the hydrophobic radical, and a substituted, hydrogenated tallow ammonium chloride is particularly preferred. The pretreated clay is then subjected to mechanical working such as by compaction to activate the clay. The subject method avoids the addition of water or other solvent to the clay when adding the activator substance, and therefore avoids the added cost of later removing the water, or other solvent. The physical properties of the dry processed organophilic clay are superior in some respects to organophilic clays made by the prior art methods.
