    Abstract: A single- or multi-phase step wave power converter includes multiple transformers configured to receive DC voltage from one or more power sources. Each of the transformers includes a primary winding and a secondary winding. The transformers are each configured to supply a step for a step wave AC output. Bridge circuits are supplied for controlling input of DC voltage into the primary windings of the transformers. Steps for the step wave AC output are output from the secondary windings based upon the input provided to the primary windings. DC source management circuitry manages which DC power source(s) supplies DC voltage input to each of the bridge circuits. The management circuitry provides seamless power switching between the plurality of DC power sources based on each power source's performance characteristics. A pulse-width modulator can also be provided to the step wave power converter to modulate the input into a selected primary winding.

A control circuit receives commands from a control logic to operate a converter or inverter in various operation modes. Control software inputs can be translated into signals to operate the converter or inverter. Control variables in the control software can be configured to operate under various control modes. If the converter or inverter cannot simultaneously meet the demands placed on two or more variables, the control logic can use prioritization to choose a more important constraint.

    Abstract: Decreased input and output ripple current and ripple voltage on a switched mode power conversion array is realized at high power levels and frequencies by coupling an input power signal across an input capacitance to which a plurality of smaller power converter circuits are coupled in parallel. The converter circuits may have any topology now known or later devised. Each of the converter circuits are sequentially operated in a phase shifted manner across the period of the conversion frequency in a time overlapping relationship. For example, if there are N converters and the period of the conversion frequency is T, each converter circuit is triggered or switched at a phase shift corresponding to a time increment of T/N delayed with respect to the preceding or subsequent converter. The output of each of the converters is then coupled in parallel to an output capacitance.
