    Abstract: A fiber optic contact comprising a ferrule having an alignment sleeve mounted on its forward end so that the mating end face of the ferrule is positioned between the front and rear of the alignment sleeve. A releasable positive interlock is provided between the sleeve and the ferrule so that the sleeve may be removed for cleaning the mating end face of the ferrule, yet the sleeve will not be accidentally removed from the ferrule during use of the contact in a connector. Vent holes are provided in the intermediate region of the alignment sleeve so that dust or other particles in the sleeve will be forced out of the sleeve through the vent holes when the ferrule of a second contact is slid into the alignment sleeve to mate with the ferrule upon which the alignment sleeve is mounted.

    Abstract: A demodulator of the type employed in a "zero-IF" system uses a local oscillator for providing quadrature output signals at the center frequency of a received signal to be demodulated. The demodulator has first and second mixers for separately mixing the received signal with the quadrature signals to provide a first and second output signal each in quadrature at the outputs of said mixers. These signals are low pass filtered. The demodulator includes third and fourth mixers with each mixer respectively receiving at an input one of the first and second low pass signals. At another input the mixers receive third and fourth signals. The third and fourth signals are derived from mixing a variable controlled oscillator (VCO) signal with local oscillator quadrature signals the frequency of said is independent of the center frequency of the received signal.

    Abstract: A double-cylinder shock absorber, which is particularly suitable for use in a MacPherson strut, includes an inner cylinder having a closed lower end and which is filled with oil. A piston rod extends into the inner cylinder through the upper end thereof. A piston is secured to the lower end of the piston rod and divides the cylinder into upper and lower oil chambers. The piston is provided with a fluid metering device providing a damping force mechanism. A rod guide head closes the upper end of the inner cylinder and is provided with an opening which is slightly spaced from the piston rod to form an annular clearance therebetween. An outer cylinder is coaxially disposed around the inner cylinder and forms therewith an annular reservoir chamber having closed upper and lower ends. The lower portion of the reservoir chamber is filled with oil and the upper portion is filled with gas.

    Abstract: An insulation displacement connector is disclosed which is particularly adapted for use with flat cable having very closely spaced conductors. The connector contains two rows of contacts. The contacts in the two rows are staggered relative to each other. Each contact has a slotted plate for engaging one of the conductors of the cable. Adjacent contacts in each row of contacts are rotated 180.degree. relative to each other so that the slotted plates of the contacts in each row are also staggered relative to each other for facilitating feeding every second conductor of the flat cable laterally between the slotted plates of one row of contacts to the slotted plates of the other row.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for recognition of sentences comprised of utterances separated by short pauses, the utterances representative of both isolated words and connected words. Speech to be recognized is converted into frames of digital signals. Selected ones of the frames of digital signals are compared with isolated word and connected word templates stored in a template memory. Recognition of isolated words is done by comparing the selected frames of digital signals with the isolated word templates in accordance with a windowed dynamic programming algorithm having path boundary control, while connected word recognition is accomplished by comparing selected frames of digital signals with the connected word templates in accordance with a full DPA having path score normalization and utterance frame penalty calculation capability. Variable frame rate encoding is used to identify the selected frames of digital signals.

A black anodized aluminum shell encloses the peripheral surface of all of the above cells. An extremely high viscosity interface coupling medium, such as dimethyl polysiloxane, is disposed at all interface surfaces of the various materials employed in the filter to minimize reflection losses at these interface surfaces.

    Abstract: The power supply converts alternating current voltage to a direct current voltage which is in turn converted to a pulse width modulated voltage. A circuit arrangement is provided responsive to the pulse width modulated voltage to produce N output direct current voltages each having a different predetermined value, where N is an integer greater than one. A feedback circuit is provided between the circuit arrangement and the circuit providing the pulse width modulated voltage to provide a substantially constant value for the N output voltages when a varying load is presented to the power supply. A current transformer arrangement is coupled in series in the feedback circuit to provide wide bandwidth and low droop without oscillation for the power supply when the power supply is subjected to a step load (a step from no-load up to full-load).

    Abstract: A mechanism for latching a modular wall phone to a mounting receptacle plate. As is conventional, the plate has a central aperture for a modular jack and spaced on each vertical side of the aperture is a headed stud or rivet. The wall phone has a base plate with a central slot through which a plug on a line cord extends to mate with the jack. The base also has keyhole slots for receiving and mating with the headed studs. Adjacent at least one stud is the present latching mechanism which is readily assembled to the base plate with the phone separated from the receptacle plate. The latch mechanism automatically engages the headed stud and latches to it when the phone is mounted on the wall. The mechanism is accessible from exterior of the phone to release the latch and enable removal of the phone from the receptacle plate.

    Abstract: A center retention system for retaining a wheel cover on a vehicle wheel. The system includes a center piece coaxially disposed about the axis of the wheel. A plurality of radially extending straps are provided. The other ends of the straps are fastened to the center piece to rigidly locate the center piece along the axis of the wheel. The wheel cover is removably fastened to the center piece by a lock bolt or the like. The torque-tool-engaging surface of the lock bolt is provided in a keyed configuration requiring a unique tool for removal of the lock bolt.

    Abstract: Apparatus is depicted which enables the sampling of the phase angle of a modulated signal and manipulates the sample signals to demodulate the same. The apparatus is particularly adaptable for use in demodulating the I and Q channel signals of a zero IF receiver. The system contains an angle sensing circuit which combines the I and Q channel signals in differential form to produce a series of output signals of an angular range indicative of the present value of the instanteous phase. The signals from the angle detector are coupled to an octant decoder which operates to determine the particular octant that the angle is to be included in. In the present system eight octants are used, each comprising 45.degree.. The octant decoder determines which octant the angle belongs in and assigns a predetermined angle value to that angle. In one embodiment, the assigned angle values are 0.degree., 45.degree., 90.degree., 135.degree., 180.degree., 225.degree., 270.degree. or 315.degree..
