Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for solving a congestion problem in an integrated circuit (IC) design are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A congested g-edge is selected from a set of congested g-edges. A set of congesting nets is selected, wherein the set of congesting nets cause congestion in the selected congested g-edges by crossing the selected congested g-edge. A vacancy data structure corresponding to the selected congested g-edge is populated. A subset of the set of the congesting nets is selected. The subset of the set of the congesting nets is rerouted to a candidate g-edge identified in the vacancy data structure.

Abstract: One or more measurements of processor utilization are taken. A utilization ceiling is calculated. One or more processing units (PUs) are added automatically if it is determined that the utilization ceiling is greater than an available PU capacity. One or more PUs are removed automatically responsive to determining that the utilization ceiling is at least one PU less than the available PU capacity.

Abstract: A first photoresist layer is patterned with a first pattern that includes an opening in a region between areas of two adjacent via holes to be formed. The opening in the first photoresist is transferred into a template layer to form a line trench therein. The lateral dimension of the trench is reduced by depositing a contiguous spacer layer that does not fill the trench completely. An etch-resistant material layer is conformally deposited and fills the trench, and is subsequently recessed to form an etch-resistant material portion filling the trench. A second photoresist layer is applied and patterned with a second pattern, which includes an opening that includes areas of two via holes and an area therebetween. A composite pattern of an intersection of the second pattern and the complement of the pattern of the etch-resistant material portion is transferred through the template layer.

Abstract: Various method and system embodiments for facilitating catalog sharing in multiprocessor systems use multiple ECS cache structures to which catalogs are assigned based on an attribute such as SMS storage class or a high level qualifier (HLQ) (e.g. an N-to-1 mapping) or each individual catalog (e.g. a 1-to-1 mapping). When maintenance is performed on an ECS shared catalog, the multiple ECS cache structure requires only those catalogs associated with a particular ECS cache structure be disconnected. Any catalogs in the structure that are not involved in or affected by the maintenance may be temporarily or permanently moved to a different ECS cache structure. As a result, VVDS sharing is only required for those catalogs on which maintenance is being performed or that remain associated with that ECS cache structure during maintenance. This reduces I/O activity to the DASD, and results in a significant overall performance improvement.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system for information governance crowd sourcing by, responsive to receiving a data quality exception identifying one or more data quality errors in a data store, identifying a performance level required to correct the data quality errors, selecting, from a crowd hierarchy, a first one or more crowds meeting the defined performance level, wherein the crowd hierarchy ranks the performance of one or more crowds, and routing, by operation of one or more computer processors, the one or more data quality errors to the selected crowds for correction.

Abstract: Within a business process, a decision reference can be defined at an insertion point. The decision reference can be associated with one of a plurality of different decision modes. Each decision mode can indicate a different process for selecting one or more activities of the business process to be performed according to a result of a decision service to be implemented for the decision reference. A description file can be generated for the decision reference specifying, at least in part, the associated decision mode.

Abstract: Memory is dynamically switched through the optical-switching fabric using at least one communication pattern to transfer memory space in the memory blades from one processor to an alternative processor in the processor blades without physically copying data in the memory to the processors. Various communication patterns for the dynamically switching are supported.

Abstract: A system and associated method for creating a library method stub in source code form corresponding to an original library call in machine-executable form. Sequential code subject to pipeline-parallelization includes the original library call of which source code is not available for profiling. The original library call is annotated for a library method signature to specify formal arguments and parameters accessible to the formal arguments. Memory operations of the original library call are summarized with on one or more idiom sentences, which are mapped to a respective code stub that simulates the original library call. The library method stub is created for profiling of the original library call in source code level such that the sequential code is parallelized via the created library method stub.

Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for updating zone information in a distributed switch of data forwarders. For each data forwarder, a sequence number is maintained for zone distribution messages sent to the data forwarder. A change to the ports in the network is detected comprising at least one of an allocation or deallocation of at least one port in the network. The sequence number for each data forwarder is incremented in response to detecting the change. For each data forwarder, a zone distribution message is generated indicating the at least one port allocated and/or deallocated, port information indicating each port in the network that may communicate with each other port, and the sequence number for the data forwarder. The generated zone distribution message is transmitted for each data forwarder to the data forwarder for which the zone distribution message was added.

Abstract: A technique for operating a group of virtual machines (VMs) includes utilizing a checkpoint procedure to maintain secondary VMs to assume tasks of primary VMs within a cluster in the event of failover. On failover of a first one of the primary VMs, a first one of the secondary VMs assumes the tasks from the checkpoint immediately preceding a failover event. Each of the primary VMs is connected to receive data from remaining ones of the primary VMs via an internal bus and process the data on receipt. Checkpoints for the primary VMs are synchronized. For each of the primary VMs, release to the external bus of data generated on the basis of received internal bus data is prevented until a subsequent checkpoint has occurred. On failover of one of the primary VMs, all of the primary VMs are directed to initiate failover to an associated one of the secondary VMs.

Abstract: Implementing security access includes mapping input elements of an input device to a coordinate system. Each of the input elements is assigned to a point on the coordinate system that is defined by respective coordinate values. The security access also includes receiving a number of inputs via corresponding input elements. An input element assigned to a first input of the number of inputs is denoted as a starting point for a sequence. Beginning with an input in the sequence that immediately follows the first input in the sequence, the security access further includes identifying a directional orientation of each of the input elements as compared to an input element immediately preceding the input element in the sequence, creating a directional pattern sequence from the directional orientation identified for each of the input elements, and providing access to an information source using the directional pattern sequence as an authentication mechanism.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is directed to a method associated with a node comprising a hypervisor and guest VMs, each guest VM being managed by the hypervisor and disposed to run applications, the node being joined with other nodes to form an HA cluster. The method includes establishing an internal bidirectional communication channel between each guest VM and the hypervisor, and further includes sending commands and responses thereto through the channel, wherein respective commands manage a specified application running on the given guest VM. The messages are selectively monitored, to detect a failure condition associated with the specified application running on the given guest VM. Responsive to detecting a failure condition, action is taken to correct the failure condition, wherein the action includes sending at least one command through the internal channel from the hypervisor to the given guest VM.
