  • Patent number: 8537974
Abstract: A system and method to expedite special number calls from a remote terminal that employs call control system comprising a control module and a translations database and is connected to the trunk group between the remote terminal and the local switching office. The translations database maintains translations for its associated remote terminal special number calls, including, but not limited to, 9-1-1 calls. When the call control system recognizes a special number call, it performs a look up in its translation database using the line ID as a key and substitutes a destination number for the special number and a calling line telephone number for the line ID. The call control system forwards the call to the local switching office, which treats the call as a trunk-to-trunk call. Advantageously, one (or more) trunk of the trunk group may be reserved solely for special number calls.

  • Patent number: 8009808
Abstract: A call control system comprising a control module, a translations database and a switching fabric are connected to a trunk group between a remote terminal and its controlling local switching office. The call control system monitors control signals from the switching office on the trunk. In the event of loss of control signals, the call control system intercepts requests for service, etc. from a calling telephone connected to the remote terminal and performs a look up in the translation database. If the call can be completed without the controlling switching office the call is looped back to the remote terminal. The translation database is maintained by a remote terminal OA&M interface that receives change orders from the local exchange carrier. The remote terminal OA&M interface forwards relevant changes to the call control system's translation database.

  • Patent number: 7529352
Abstract: A system and method to enable a local communications systems to respond appropriately to all extra-jurisdictional emergency dialing numbers by connecting the call to an interactive emergency language system. Additionally, and importantly, the system uses the dialed emergency services number as an initial indication that the caller may need a translator, an emergency services operator that has language skills associated with the country or countries where the emergency dialing code is used, or both. The interactive emergency language system interactively determines the preferred language of the caller and causes the call to be routed to a public safety answering point position that has the appropriate language skills. If the language cannot be determined or there is no local support for the selected language, then the call is bridged to a translation agency and the call is routed to the PSAP that serves the geographic location of the caller.

  • Patent number: 7200207
Abstract: The invention comprises a communication network that includes a plurality of conforming emergency systems, a packet network, and an emergency services network. The emergency services network includes a plurality of response gateways and a plurality of emergency services. Each of the conforming emergency systems facilitates the establishment of a media channel with one of the response gateways. In any one of the conforming emergency systems, responsive to establishing a media channel over the packet network with a response gateway and responsive to an emergency event (e.g., a 9-1-1 call, a 1-1-2 call, etc), the conforming emergency system transmits a retrieval key for the emergency event over the established media channel to the response gateway. The response gateway transmits a query for information corresponding with the retrieval key.

  • Patent number: 7177398
Abstract: The invention includes a communication network that comprises a conforming emergency system coupled to an emergency services network by a media channel. The emergency services network includes a resource coupled to a plurality of emergency services. When in operation, the conforming emergency system transmits an emergency event message to the resource over the media channel. The emergency event message includes a retrieval key. Responsive to receiving the emergency event message and the retrieval key, the resource initiates an emergency event session corresponding with the retrieval key. During the emergency event session, the resource transmits multiple responses to the conforming emergency system. Also during the emergency event session, the resource receives information corresponding with the retrieval key from at least one of the emergency services, and transmits the multiple responses containing the information.

  • Patent number: 7177397
Abstract: The present invention is related to the delivery of requests for emergency service initially handled by an emergency service call center to a public safety answering point. The invention additionally allows for enhancement information to be provided to a public safety answering point operator visually in connection with calls routed to that public safety answering point. This information may include caller identification, and additional information, such as information regarding the location of the caller and the nature of the emergency. Furthermore, the routing of requests for emergency service to an appropriate public safety answering point can be accomplished for requests received over a wide geographic area. In particular, requests can be appropriately routed even though they may originate from locations encompassed by different E9-1-1 tandems.

  • Patent number: 7177400
Abstract: A system and method that provides a map image as part of, or along with, ALI information by dispatching a map query to a central map server after receipt of the ALI information, which includes an address, geo-coordinates or both. A map image corresponding to the requested location is returned. The ALI database may request the map image after retrieving or determining the location of the caller. Data to generate map images is stored in a central server or group of servers. In this manner, the data only has to be updated once for all users to have the updates. Further, the map server may be connected to wireline telephone facilities, wireless telephone facilities, or both, in a manner that is complimentary to the topography of the telephone network.

  • Patent number: 7123693
Abstract: The invention includes an emergency services network comprising a plurality of resources, a plurality of emergency services, and a Service/Name Resolution (SNR) system connected to a transport network. In operation, one of the resources receives a retrieval key for an emergency event from a conforming emergency system. The resource transmits the retrieval key to the transport network. The SNR system receives the retrieval key over the transport network and identifies at least one of the emergency services corresponding with the retrieval key. The SNR system initiates the transfer of the retrieval key to the identified emergency services. The identified emergency services then perform services corresponding with the retrieval key.

  • Publication number: 20050201359
Abstract: The invention includes a communication network for dynamically establishing media channels between conforming emergency systems (CES) and resources of an emergency services network. The CES transmits a request message for a media channel to the packet network. One of the resources of the emergency services network receives the request message. The resource responds to the request message to dynamically establish the media channel. The CES may then exchange messages with the resource over the media channel to facilitate the CES in handling emergency events. In other embodiments, a resource transmits a request message for a media channel to the packet network. The CES receives the request message, and responds to the request message to dynamically establish the media channel. The CES and the resource may then exchange messages over the media channel to facilitate the CES in handling emergency events.

  • Publication number: 20050201358
Abstract: The invention includes a communication network for rotating media channels between resources of an emergency services network and a conforming emergency system (CES). A conforming emergency system and one of the resources of the emergency services network dynamically establish a first media channel between one another over a transport network. With the first media channel established, the conforming emergency system and the resource exchange messages over the first media channel to facilitate the CES in handling emergency events. Responsive to a triggering event, the CES and one of the resources (the same or another resource) dynamically establish a second media channel between one another over the transport network. With the second media channel established, the conforming emergency system and the resource exchange messages over the second media channel to facilitate the CES in handling emergency events. The first media channel may be torn down.
