Patent number: 9245341Abstract: During an information-extraction technique, visual suitability indicators may be displayed to a user of the electronic device to assist the user in acquiring an image of a document that is suitable for subsequent extraction of textual information. For example, an imaging application executed by the electronic device may display, in a window associated with the imaging application, a visual suitability indicator of a tilt orientation of the electronic device relative to a plane of the document. When the tilt orientation falls within a predefined range, the electronic device may modify the visual suitability indicators to provide visual feedback to the user. Then, the electronic device may acquire the image of the document using an imaging device, which is integrated into the electronic device. Next, the electronic device may extract the textual information from the image of the document using optical character recognition.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2014Date of Patent: January 26, 2016Assignee: INTUIT INC.Inventors: Sammy Lee, Grace Pariante, Eugene Krivopaltsev, Sreeneel K. Patent number: 9245117Abstract: An application is implemented in the production environment in which the application will be used. Two or more backend systems are used to implement different versions of the application using the production environment in which the application will actually be used and accessed. Actual user data is received. A first portion of the actual user data is routed and processed in the production environment using a first version of the application and a first backend system of the two or more backend systems. A second portion of the actual user data is also routed and processed in the production environment but using a second version of the application and a second backend system of the two or more backend systems. The results data is then analyzed to evaluate the various versions of the application in the production environment.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2014Date of Patent: January 26, 2016Assignee: Intuit Inc.Inventors: Brett Weaver, Javier Godinez, Capen Brinkley, Thomas Bishop, M. Publication number: 20160012074Abstract: A system and method for providing contextual analytics data receives display entity data into a first virtual container, the display entity data including one or more instructions of the first virtual container. Instructions performing process operations are present within a second virtual container isolated from the first virtual container. The display entity data is analyzed to identify a webpage, for example, associated with the display entity data. If necessary, executable code is injected into the first virtual container in order to expose data of the first virtual container to the operations of the second virtual container so that further identification of the display entity may be made. A request is made by the second virtual container to one or more computing systems to provide available analytics data pertaining to the display entity data, after which the available analytics data is displayed for a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2014Publication date: January 14, 2016Applicant: INTUIT INC.Inventors: Olaf Joachim Fermum, Nilendu Misra

Patent number: 9230214Abstract: Some embodiments provide a system that facilitates use of an auto-completion system. During operation, the system receives an input text string entered by a user. The system determines a set of text strings, wherein each of the text strings in the set can replace the input text string entered by the user. Next, the system calculates a commercial intent score for each text string in the set. Following this, the system selects a replacement text string from the set of text strings based on commercial intent scores computed for each text string in the set. Finally, the system displays the selected replacement text string in the place of the input text string to the user.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2013Date of Patent: January 5, 2016Assignee: INTUIT INC.Inventors: Sony Joseph, Ilya A. Publication number: 20150363892Abstract: Tax data, e.g., Form W2 data, is encoded as a two-dimensional machine readable representation, such as a QR CODE. Certain tax data is encoded as segments of a QR CODE, and a tax form generated by an employer or payroll processing service and provided to an employee or user includes the QR CODE representing certain W-2 or other tax data. An image of the QR CODE is acquired using a camera of a mobile communication device or computer or other image capture device. When using a Smartphone, a tax preparation application executing on the Smartphone decodes the QR CODE image to determine the tax data, and populates fields of an electronic tax return with decoded data, thus allowing a consumer to prepare an electronic tax return using a mobile communication device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2015Publication date: December 17, 2015Applicant: INTUIT INC.Inventors: Jonathan A. Patent number: 9213625Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that performs automated user-interface layout testing. During operation, the system executes a pre-defined set of operations for a program. After these operations have executed, the system then stores a representation (e.g., a snapshot) of the program user interface. The system then compares this representation against a validated representation that was previously stored for the pre-defined set of operations to determine a difference between the representations. This process facilitates detecting changes to the program (and/or the environment in which the program executes) that affect the user interface that is presented to a user.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2010Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: INTUIT INC.Inventor: Andrew J. Patent number: 9213862Abstract: Systems, methods and articles of manufacture for delivering website content to an internet user which is personalized to the user based on a persona associated with the user. A persona database system accesses personal and financial data for the user from any suitable source, such as from a tax return of the user or personal finance management application or even a questionnaire. The persona database system matches the user's data to a persona for the user from a predetermined, discrete set of personas, wherein each persona identifies a generalized profile of personal and financial characteristics of the user. Then, when a user access a website hosted by a website server, the website server accesses the persona for the user from the persona database system and the website server personalizes the website content delivered to the user based on the persona for the user.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2014Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: INTUIT INC.Inventors: Carolyn Spencer, Avanish Pathak, Vijoy Caro, Aliza D. Patent number: 9208551Abstract: An optical image of a source document is captured. Two or more source document image test regions are then defined/determined. An optical image scan is performed on each source document image test region to determine if there are identifiable alpha-numeric characters or symbols present. If one or more of the source document image test regions are determined not to contain identifiable alpha-numeric characters, the captured optical image of the source document is determined to be of insufficient quality to identify and extract individual characters and symbols and it is recommended that optical images of source documents determined to be of insufficient quality to identify and extract individual characters and symbols be re-captured using an image capture device.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2013Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: Intuit Inc.Inventors: Sunil Madhani, Anu Sreepathy, Samir Kakkar

Patent number: 9204205Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provides an advertisement queue (ADQ) allowing users (i.e., potential advertisement viewers) to temporarily store a limited number of electronic advertisements for later viewing as an alternative to completely dismissing all advertisements as irrelevant. For example, the electronic advertisements include, but not limited to, online advertisements and television advertisements. In one or more embodiments, a user's ADQ is allocated to store a maximum number of advertisements, referred to as queued advertisements. When the ADQ is full or reaches a pre-determined percentage of maximum entry count, the user is offered to view a queued advertisement in the ADQ, to select a category of advertisement for future queuing, and/or to clear the ADQ.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2013Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Assignee: Intuit Inc.Inventor: Ravi Kiran Pasula
