    Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention is directed to a controller for a wheelchair. The controller includes a joystick for controlling the speed and direction of the wheelchair. A housing of the controller has a top surface and a bottom surface. The top surface has a weight bearing portion configured to support a user's weight when the user places at least a portion of his or her hand on the weight bearing portion to facilitate entering or exiting the wheelchair.
