Publication number: 20160200586Abstract: The invention provides an oxygen Andrussow process for production of hydrogen cyanide from a methane-containing feedstock such as natural gas in the presence of oxygen and ammonia over a platinum catalyst, wherein the production of byproduct organonitrile impurities, such as acrylonitrile, is reduced. Limiting the content of C2 hydrocarbons in the methane feedstock in the oxygen Andrussow process, in contrast to the air Andrussow process, has been found to reduce formation of organonitriles, such as acrylonitrile. The organonitrile impurities can require additional processing for removal cause fouling of equipment, and can also contribute to hydrogen cyanide polymerization. Reduction of C2+ hydrocarbon levels to less than 2 wt %, or 1 wt %, or less than 0.1 wt %, in the methane can provide an improved yield of higher purity HCN.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 12, 2013Publication date: July 14, 2016Applicant: INVISTA TECHNOLOGIES S.A R.L.Inventors: Stewart FORSYTH, Aiguo LIU, Martin J. Publication number: 20160168081Abstract: A solvent is at least partially separated from a catalyst. The catalyst comprises nickel and a bidentate phosphorus-containing ligand. The method for separation involves distilling a catalyst solution. The ratio of 2-pentenenitrile to 3-pentenenitrile in distillation column bottoms is controlled to reduce the amount of 3-pentenenitrile which is isomerized to form 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile. Isomerization of 3-pentenenitrile to 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile and subsequent isomerization of 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile to 2-methyl-2-butenenitrile, and/or hydrocyanation of 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile to methylglutaronitrile represents a loss in adiponitrile yield in a process for making adiponitrile.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 16, 2014Publication date: June 16, 2016Applicant: INVISTA TECHNOLOGIES S.A R.L.Inventors: Sudhir N.V.K. AKI, James M. GARNER, William J. TENN, Thomas E. VOS

Publication number: 20150337275Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to methods for the biosynthesis of di- or trifunctional C7 alkanes in the presence of isolated enzymes or in the presence of a recombinant host cell expressing those enzymes. The di- or trifunctional C7 alkanes are useful as intermediates in the production of nylon-7, nylon-7,x, nylon-x,7, and polyesters.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2012Publication date: November 26, 2015Applicant: INVISTA TECHNOLOGIES S.a.r.l.Inventors: Paul S. Publication number: 20150233052Abstract: Disclosed are processes for application of dyes and topical chemistries to single yarns during a yarn rewind process. The process foregoes the need for downstream environmentally unfavorable dyeing and low PH chemical treatment processes on the finished carpet. Further, neutral pH dye solutions can be used instead of the prior art low pH dye solutions. The single, treated yarn can then be twisted, weaved and tufted, twisted yarn under dry conditions, and the twisted yarn subsequently weaved or weaved and tufted, into a finished fabric or carpet. Also disclosed are systems, BCF yarns, and carpets made from the BCF yarn treated by the disclosed processes.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2013Publication date: August 20, 2015Applicant: INVISTA TECHNOLOGIES S.a.r.l.Inventors: Wae-Hai Tung, Ronnie Rittenhouse

Patent number: 6841604Abstract: A polyester with a carbon black content of up to 20% by weight, based on the polyester, is condensed, after transesterification of DMT with diol, or after esterification of terephthalic acid with diol, with the aid of a titanium-based catalyst. The carbon black is added in the form of a carbon black dispersion together with the polycondensation catalyst to the transesterification product or esterification product. The carbon black dispersion comprises gas black or furnace black and a dispersing agent, and these are dispersed in diol. The diameter of the carbon black particles is below that of carbon black particles in a polyester using an antimony compound as catalyst.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2002Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Assignee: INVISTA Technologies, S.a. r.l.Inventors: Uwe Bayer, Jürgen Popp, Thomas Wehrmeister
