  • Patent number: 7809435
Abstract: An adjustable, wireless electromyography (EMG) sensor includes a first sensor portion and a second sensor portion. The first sensor portion includes a first measurement attachment point, a wireless transmitter, and a control circuit. The control circuit controls the wireless EMG sensor. The second sensor portion includes a second measurement attachment point. The wireless EMG sensor may also include an adjustable connector that connects the first sensor portion and the second sensor portion. The control circuit controls collection of EMG measurements between the first measurement attachment point and the second measurement attachment point, and controls the wireless transmitter to transmit the EMG measurements having been collected. The control circuit may also control power saving by the wireless EMG sensor.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for evaluating the risk of stress-related injury associated with a predetermined activity. One embodiment involves collecting physiological data while a subject performs a predetermined task, collecting psychological data while the subject performs a cognitive task, and ascertaining the risk of stress-related injury based on both the collected physiological data and the collected psychological data. Another embodiment involves presenting a subject with a plurality of mental and physical tasks during which physiological data, psychological data, and/or both is collected, and determining the risk of stress-related injury based on the data collected. Yet another embodiment includes a test circuit for measuring stress responses that includes both physiological test stations and psychological test stations. Physiological stress is evaluated in the form of surface electromyography data that is quantified into a single index value, as will be described in detail herein.

  • Patent number: 7593769
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for surface electromyography (sEMG) index calculation and applications. The sEMG data points are quantified by accessing sEMG data points describing activity of a muscle. A single value is calculating from the sEMG data points. The single value is calculated using the sEMG data points as an input to a mathematical algorithm. The mathematical algorithm can include an integral. The mathematical algorithm can also include consideration of high points, low points, averages within the sEMG data points, first-order derivatives, second-order derivatives, and other direct or indirect data based at least in part upon sEMG data. The E-index calculated can be used in many applications and in combination with EKG and EEG.
