  • Patent number: 6314288
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for updating a location of a subscriber for paging in a global telecommunications network where the subscriber has both a wireless subscriber unit and a pager. The method includes obtaining a first current location for the wireless subscriber unit, attempting to update a second current location for the pager based upon the first current location; updating the second location based upon a default location if the attempt fails. In the preferred embodiment, the second current location is updated based upon the first current location if the attempt is successful. The method of the present invention bundles a subscriber's wireless subscriber unit number with his pager number and uses the wireless subscriber unit's current location to determine the first delivery area for a page. When an error occurs, the method uses a default delivery area and attempts delivery there. By managing errors in this manner, message delivery is more reliable.

  • Patent number: 6285882
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for reregistration of a subscriber unit in a global telecommunications network. The method and system includes receiving an event requiring authentication; determining if a threshold for subscriber verification has been reached; requesting subscriber verification if the threshold has been reached; and deregistering the subscriber if the subscriber is not verified. The method and system of the present invention prevents continued access to the network by deregistered subscribers for cross-protocol calls when deregistration messages are lost. In this manner, fraudulent use of the network by unauthorized users is decreased.

  • Patent number: 6198922
Abstract: A system and method for managing an interaction with a user of a telecommunications network is disclosed. The telecommunications network utilizes data relating to a geometry of the network. The method and system include identifying a plurality of geographic regions and correlating the geometry with plurality of geographic regions. Therefore, data relating to the plurality of geographic regions can be used by the telecommunications network.

  • Patent number: 6160995
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for uniform call termination treatment in a global telecommunications network, the network including subscribers and wireless subscriber units. The method includes the steps of receiving calls for the wireless subscriber units for the global telecommunications network; determining unconnected calls that cannot be connected to the subscriber units; and uniformly providing alternative call termination treatment options to each of the unconnected calls. In the preferred embodiment, the reasons why the call cannot be connected to the wireless subscriber unit includes the unit being not reachable, busy, or not being answered. A caller is given the same option to leave either a voice message, a numeric message, or a text message under each of the above circumstances. In this manner, incoming calls are handled uniformly. Because calls are uniformly completed, network providers can bill for each call, minimizing lost revenue.

  • Patent number: 6134307
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for converting call events. The method includes receiving a plurality of call events from a plurality of sources in a global telecommunications network; converting the plurality of call events a plurality of call event records, the call event records having different destinations; sending a first portion of the plurality of call event records to a first destination; and sending a second portion of the plurality of call event records to a second destination. The method of the present invention allows for different types of billing information to be sent to different entities around the world in a global telecommunications network. It ensures that the correct information is eventually routed to the correct entity, so that proper billing can be performed.
