  • Patent number: 6058982
Abstract: A yarn feeder includes a storage drum, and an unwinding brake which has a storage drum counter-braking surface continuous in the peripheral direction and coaxial to the axis of the storage drum. The unwinding brake further has a braking component supported on the counter-braking surface axially counter to the direction of yarn unwinding so as to produce spring action and having a coaxial braking surface also continuous in the peripheral direction. The yarn feeder also has a mounting for the braking component, and a pneumatic brake opening device which has a pressure chamber with a pneumatically loadable, axially movable boundary wall. The boundary wall is connected to the braking component so as to transmit movement at least in the direction of movement thereof counter to the action of the spring. When the boundary wall is pressurised by excess pressure or a vacuum, the braking component can be moved axially into a threading position in which the braking surface is lifted from the counter-braking surface.

  • Patent number: 5862835
Abstract: A drive device for a weaving machine has a motor control unit connected to an asynchronous motor. An electric supply network supplies the motor control unit with electric power which the motor control unit converts to have a substantially higher frequency. This higher frequency power is then supplied to the asynchronous motor causing the motor to operate at a high r.p.m. A speed reducing unit is connected between the motor and a drive shaft of the weaving machine. The speed reducing unit reduces the r.p.m. of the motor and the motor drives the weaving machine via the drive shaft at the r.p.m. of the weaving machine.

  • Patent number: 5765399
Abstract: For determining the movement of a thread supply boundary on the storage surface of a thread storage and feed device, different scanning properties of at least two circumferentially offset circumferential sections of the storage surface are scanned simultaneously and converted into storage surface signals which are nonidentical among themselves and which are discriminated from thread signals which are identical among themselves. The thread signals are generated by sensors which scan a scanning zone on the storage surface and formed on the basis of a scanning property of the thread windings when the thread supply is present in the scanning zone. The thread storage and feed device is provided with first and second circumferential sections on the storage surface differing from one another with respect to their scanning properties, and a plurality of sensors.

  • Patent number: 5662148
Abstract: A thread feed system having a measuring feeder, a supply bobbin supplying thread to the measuring feeder and a textile machine which withdraws the thread from the measuring feeder so as to perform a weaving operation. The measuring feeder includes a storage drum and a winding element which removes the thread from the supply bobbin and winds the thread onto the storage drum. A control device is provided for monitoring the operating conditions of the thread system so as to identify increases in thread tension. The control device is operatively connected to an auxiliary conveyor device having a drivable friction roll which is frictionally engaged with the thread between the supply bobbin and the storage drum. The auxiliary conveyor device is operable so as to provide an increased frictional action on the thread so as to advance the thread at an increased rate to the storage drum so as to preparatorily counteract the thread tension increase and eliminate short picks of the thread in the textile machine.

  • Patent number: 5462094
Abstract: According to a method and apparatus for controlling the insertion process of a weft yarn, the weft yarn is temporarily exposed to a braking friction and the yarn tension is mechanically picked-up. In order to prevent the friction from having a disturbing or damaging effect on the yarn, the yarn tension is only temporarily picked-up during certain phases of the insertion process, in order to derive information from the tension curve that is useful for the control of the insertion process. In a power loom, in particular a jet, rapier or gripper shuttle loom, a tension sensor for sensing the tension of the weft yarn can be switched during insertion between its sensing position and a passive position in which it does not touch the weft yarn. Preferably, the tension sensor is integrated in the insertion brake or even forms the braking element itself.
