Patent number: 11046252Abstract: A vehicle side or step rail includes a longitudinal extending vehicle side rail having a vehicle frame-facing side arranged to mount to the frame of a motor vehicle and an outward-facing side to which a leading end of one or more steps is connected to the rail but the trailing end is not. The connection may be in the form of a brace. Depending on where the vehicle mounting points are located relative to the leading end of the step, one or more additional braces can be added. Regardless of whether additional braces are used, the trailing end of the step is not braced or connected to the rail and always extends past the brace. The step surface of the step is always spaced apart from the rail, leaving a gap between it and the outward-facing side of the rail.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2019Date of Patent: June 29, 2021Assignee: Iron Cross Automotive, Inc.Inventors: Troy D. Patent number: 10703314Abstract: Embodiments of a motor vehicle bumper step include a housing connectable to a bottommost end of a rear bumper. The uppermost end of the housing may include a planar plate containing a curved perimeter portion and, above the planar plate, a bracket including mounting holes. A recessed portion of the housing defines an opening at least partly along two different sides of the housing, with a bottom end of the recessed portion containing a planar step surface having a curved outward-facing perimeter. A first and a second facia portion each located on a different side of the housing are spaced apart from one another by the recess. The facia portions extend downward from the uppermost end of the housing and connect to a respective side of the planar step. The housing may match the bumper profile and not extend past the bumper in a horizontal direction.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2019Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: Iron Cross Automotive, Inc.Inventors: Troy D. Patent number: 9346404Abstract: A side bar made according to this invention includes a rail that forms a channel which receives mounting means such as a clip for securing the rail to a desired mounting point. The clip is moveable along the channel to any vehicle or step mounting point desired. Once in its desired location, the clip helps to secure the rail to the mounting bracket. When the rail is secured to a vehicle frame, the rail hides the vehicle mounting brackets from view and, when fully assembled with a step, hides any step mounting bracket from view. Because the mounting brackets are not visible, and because the step is complementary in shape to the rail, the rail gives the appearance of supporting the step.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2014Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: Iron Cross Automotive, Inc.Inventor: Troy D. Patent number: 8152187Abstract: A roll formed step rail for a vehicle comprises an elongated rail body having two opposing edges which define a longitudinal channel. The channel receives a pinch clamp which is wider than the channel and has a fastening hole and an alignment means. The rail body is lowered onto the mounting surface of a mounting bracket adapted for rigid connection to a vehicle. The mounting surface defines another fastening hole and another portion of the alignment means. A fastener draws the pinch clamp and the mounting surface toward opposite sides of the opposing edges of the rail body. Because the pinch clamp spans the width of the channel and is aligned properly relative to the mounting surface, the rail body is secured between the clamp and the mounting surface by the tightened fastener.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2011Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Iron Cross Automotive, Inc.Inventor: Robert T. Patent number: 7946604Abstract: A roll formed step rail for a vehicle comprises an elongated rail body including a continuous rail wall of substantially uniform thickness. The rail wall describes a continuous cross-sectional profile between two elongated free edges, the cross-sectional profile of the rail being substantially uniform along the length of the rail body. The cross-sectional profile of the rail body includes a relatively flat top portion disposed between a substantially semi-circular front curved portion and a substantially quarter-circular rear curved portion. A rear mounting lip extends forward from the rear curved portion to one of the elongated free edges. A front mounting lip extends upward and then rearwards from the front curved portion to another of the elongated free edges. The elongated free edges are generally in line with one another, but spaced apart to define a longitudinal channel therebetween having a predetermined width. The rail body is formed from a sheet of material by a process of roll forming.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2008Date of Patent: May 24, 2011Assignee: Iron Cross Automotive, Inc.Inventor: Robert T. Patent number: 7909344Abstract: An adjustable vehicle step that attaches to the vehicle's frame or body via a downward facing c-channel that extends longitudinally along the lower edge of the side of the vehicle. One or more step assemblies can be attached to the c-channel so that the step assemblies extend outward and downward from under the vehicle. The step assemblies are attachable along the length of the c-channel, making the step assemblies adjustable longitudinally relative to the vehicle so that they can be positioned below the doors of the vehicle. The supporting c-channel is hidden from view by a decorative side bar that attaches to the exposed side of the c-channel making the step assemblies appear to be supported by the decorative side bar. The step assemblies used with the step can be made of various lengths and heights.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2008Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Iron Cross Automotive, IncInventor: Troy Don Bundy
