Patent number: 4196720Abstract: The structure disclosed includes an air supported transparent membrane which encloses a solar collector unit. The solar unit includes a solar collector element and two angled walls that support and position the element. The solar collector element receives and absorbs solar radiation and provides heat to a circulating fluid. The support walls extend forwardly and outwardly from the collector element and have reflecting facing surfaces to increase the amount of radiation falling on the element. The walls extend rearwardly of the element to define a chamber in which small rocks are stored to provide heat storage. The transparent membrane creates a greenhouse effect within the chamber defined by the membrane, increasing the operating temperature and thus the conversion efficiency of the solar collector element. Furthermore, the air supported membrane protects the solar collector unit from wind loading.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1977Date of Patent: April 8, 1980Assignee: Irvin Industries Inc.Inventors: Ahmed A. ElDifrawi, Terence W. McLorg, Lloyd H. Rain

Patent number: 4162773Abstract: The belt or webbing is wound on a spool, which is rotatably mounted between the spaced legs or sides of a generally U-shaped casing, and which has a ratchet wheel secured to one end thereof. A pawl is pivotally mounted in supporting slots in one or more of the casing sides for pivotal movement into and out of a belt-locking position in which one edge of the pawl engages a tooth of the ratchet wheel to prevent further rotation of the spool in a belt unwinding direction. A leafspring, which is secured at one end to the pawl, passes over the head of a pendulum member which is suspended from the pawl, and has a free end confronting and normally spaced from the wheel teeth. When sudden changes in vehicle speed cause the pendulum to swing, its head moves the leafspring to engage the wheel teeth, which, when the belt is unwound, swing the leafspring in a direction which causes the supporting pawl to be pivoted to its belt-locking position.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1978Date of Patent: July 31, 1979Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventor: Jan-Olof Wallin

Patent number: 4128029Abstract: A table for a saw has three equal table segments supported on foldable legs. The three segments are spaced from one another by spacer elements and held in position by front and back longitudinal rails and nut and bolt combinations through the spacer elements. The spacer elements hold the table segments spaced from one another thereby defining first and second lateral slots within which the rail of a mitre gauge can ride. Four spacer elements are integral parts of a spacer bar. Each spacer bar has laterally spaced spacer elements and vertically spaced spacer elements thereby providing numerous accurately dimensioned spacing locations between adjacent table segments. The spacer elements and longitudinal rails in combination establish table element positioning and rigidity with respect to one another as well as established two longitudinal slots having a uniform predetermined width.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1977Date of Patent: December 5, 1978Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventors: Danny Gay, James Horine, James C. Hudson, Joseph P. Sallee, Hershel R. Wininger

Patent number: 4121327Abstract: A clip ejector rides along a track in a belt buckle. The track is molded onto the inner surface of the cover. The ejector is spring biased into a protracted position. A clip when inserted, contacts two shoulders on the ejector, forcing the ejector back until the clip is latched. On unlatching, the spring shoots the ejector forward causing the clip to be positively removed from the buckle. The track constitutes a rail having a longitudinal tubular groove. The ejector has a foot which extends up into the groove through a longitudinal slot in the rail. Two fins extend up from the ejector and ride on either side of the rail.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1977Date of Patent: October 24, 1978Assignee: Irvin Industries Inc.Inventor: Gerald Huntley

Patent number: 4121604Abstract: A plurality of modular dual arch arrangements are aligned to provide the frame for a shelter. Each dual arch module constitutes first and second arches having their bases spaced from one another and leaning towards one another so that their crests rest against one another. The two arches are hinged to one another at their crests by a hinge. A fabric membrane is positioned over the arches and held in tension through various turnbuckles which attach the membrane to the bases which support the arches. A plurality of longitudinal fabric support bands are stretched longitudinally across the plurality of arches and held in tension to provide further support for the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1977Date of Patent: October 24, 1978Assignee: Irvin Industries Inc.Inventor: Lloyd Howard Rain

Patent number: 4107484Abstract: A safety on-off electrical switch for energizing an electrical apparatus. The safety switch is adapted to be mounted on the electrical apparatus, but may be separate therefrom. The safety switch includes a housing enclosing an on-off switch and an operating member, such as a key which is adapted for insertion into the housing to operate the on-off switch. The key has three different operative conditions relative to the housing. One is a key insertion and fully retraction position with no effect on the switch. The second is a neutral position in which the key is held in the housing, but cannot operate the switch; and the third is a switch operative position in which the key is movable from a fully inserted position to a partially retracted position to change the state of the switch from its off state to its on state.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1977Date of Patent: August 15, 1978Assignee: Irvin Industries Inc.Inventor: Carl Mogens Petersen, III
