    Abstract: A ball joint has a ball seat fitted in a through hole of a socket. A recessed part of the socket has the same diameter as a receiving part of the ball seat. An attaching part of a dust cover is clamped into the recess formed by the recessed part and the receiving part to seal the interior of the ball joint from the entry of moisture and dirt, and to provide lateral support to the ball seat. A double-ended version is disclosed wherein attaching parts of two dust covers seal and provide lateral support to opposed ends of the ball seat.

    Abstract: A ball joint includes an inner layer of a fiber-reinforced plastic resin and an outer layer of a self-lubricating plastic resin substantially covering the inner layer. A spherical inner chamber in the outer layer slidably holds a ball portion of a ball stud. A stud portion of the ball stud projects from the spherical inner chamber for connection to an external device. A link rod having first and second ball joints at distal ends of a rod portion is also disclosed. The link rod and housings of the first and second ball joints include inner and outer layers as above. In one embodiment, the link rod includes a metallic rod embedded at each end in the plastic resin of rod portions affixed to respective ball joints.

    Abstract: A method for providing a dust-proof boot for a protruding equipment shaft of the type including a pair of spaced apart annular grooves. The boot includes an expandable central belly portion, a pair of restricted diameter attachment ring portions adapted to be received in the shaft grooves, and a pair of connecting portions connecting the attachment ring portions to the belly portion. It is formed by first forming a parison on a male die. The parison includes preformed attachment ring portions and connecting portions, at least one of which includes an inwardly protruding annular ridge member which is received in a mating recess in the die. The parison and the male die are inserted into a female blow-molding, die, with the preformed attachment ring portions and connecting portions caught and supported between the male and female dies.

    Abstract: A ball joint wherein a global head of a ball stud is covered with a bearing seat made of a hard synthetic resin so that the global head is movable in the bearing seat, a shank formed integral with the ball stud is projected from the global head, the bearing seat with the ball stud is pressed into a housing having openings at both ends, so that the shank of the ball stud is projected out of the opening at one end of the housing, engagement portions at both ends of the bearing seat are brought into engagement with the corresponding ends of the housing, and at least one of the engagement portions of the bearing seat is heated and caulked over the corresponding end of the housing to securely fix the bearing seat to the housing.

    Abstract: A bush with a sliding surface comprising a socket, a ball-integral shaft having shaft portions on both sides of a ball portion, a bearing body location between the socket and the ball-integral shaft, and a cushion having recesses in at least one axial end portions thereof constructed of polyurethane resins or polyester resins. Excellent absorption of manufacturing tolerances of parts of the bush and easy adjustment of rotational torque of the bush in normal operating conditions are obtained through use of the bush of the present invention. Additionally, the bush can show excellent load bearing characteristics even when the bush receives large loads beyond normal operating loads. Further, the durability of the bush is improved.

    Abstract: A system includes a prime mover, such as an automobile engine, having operative and inoperative states; an electrical load; an accumulator or battery for operating the load; and a control system for the battery. The control system includes: a self-holding keeping relay having contacts in circuit between the battery and the load and having a resetting coil to control energization of the load from the battery; a warning device; a detecting device and a detecting switch controlled thereby responsive to a fault condition in the battery; and a changeover switch responsive to the operative state of the prime mover for operating the detecting switch. The control system is responsive to a fault condition in the battery, such as overdischarge or low electrolyte, to prevent energization of the load when the prime mover is inoperative and to enable energization of the load and operation of a warning signal device when the prime mover is operative.
