  • Patent number: 5976304
Abstract: A coating system comprised of a resin component, a hardening component and additives. The resin component contains (meth)acrylic double bonds and at least two reactive hydroxyl groups, and the hardening component is comprised of a multifunctional, at least bifunctional isocyanate. The proportions of resin and hardening component in the coating system are stoichiometric. The coating system is suitable for producing laminated sheets with a surface layer of progressively hardening polyurethane acrylate. During a first hardening stage, the free hydroxyl groups of the resin component cross-link with the isocyanate groups of the hardening component, forming a urethane acrylate prepolymer which contains (meth)acrylic double bonds. In the second hardening state, the (meth)acrylic double bonds continue to cross-link, forming the urethane acrylic polymer coating of the sheet surface.

  • Patent number: 5876818
Abstract: The invention concerns a plastics-paper composite which substantially consists of a paper layer, a polypropylene layer and a polyester layer, the polyester layer forming one of the two surface layers of the plastics-paper composite. This plastics-paper composite is used to produce weatherproof laminated sheets with surface protection, an acrylate layer being applied to the polyester layer of the plastics-paper composite. This composite is stacked on one or both sides with a plurality of papers impregnated with synthetic resin to form a stack, the acrylate layer lying against the outermost paper layer(s). This stack is then pressed at high pressure and high temperature. For use, the surface protection is removed from the acrylate layer as from the polyester layer.

  • Patent number: 5346568
Abstract: A thermally expanding laminate contains highly elastic reinforcing fibers, such as glass fibers, in the elastically compressed state, and a thermally softening, thermosetting plastic as a binder. In order to manufacture this laminate, first glass fiber mats are impregnated with a thermosetting plastic and thereupon one or more superposed mats are compressed in a press and raised to temperatures such that the plastic shall soften and the assembly then is cooled while still being compressed and while the plastic is solidifying to form the finished laminate. The expandable laminate preferably is used for electrically insulating spacers. Illustratively a laminate blank 4 is mounted between neighboring coil parts 5 of a stator of an electrical high-voltage machine.

  • Patent number: 5341561
Abstract: In order to produce the electric insulation of the winding of an electric machine, grooves having a cross-section that tapers at least in an area near to the groove opening are arranged in the rotor or motor. Before the winding is laid in the grooves, the latter are lined with a laminate that contains an elastically compressed mass of high-elastic, electrically insulating fibres and a solidified, curable synthetic resin that can still be thermally softened, however, and that holds the mass of fibres in its compressed state. Once the winding is laid and the grooves are closed, the rotor or stator is subjected to a vacuum pressure impregnation, then cured.

  • Patent number: 4927699
Abstract: During the essentially continuous process for producing a polymer plastic, especially a foil or thin sheet (38) containing polymethyl methacrylate, a highly-viscous polymer plastic is first applied to a flat carrier inside a separating layer, whereby regions of the support surface remain free, in the manner of a surface pattern. Next a low-viscosity polymerizable monomer and/or pre-polymer (30) are cast on to this separating layer in such a way that it forms, over the separating layer, a liquid layer, onto which is applied a flat, thread-like support material (32), which may advantageously have a decorative surface and into which the support material (32) is then embedded or impressed. Next after the possible application of further layers consisting of high and/or low-viscosity plastic, especially inside a second separating layer, the thus produced material coating is transferred to the foil (38) or thin sheet, accompanied by polymerization of the plastics contained therein.
