  • Patent number: 7089389
Abstract: A system and method for analyzing data accesses to determine data accessing patterns is provided. Data address accesses are traced and transformed into Whole Program Data Accesses (WPDAs). WPDAs may then be used to discover higher-level data abstractions, such as hot data blocks. Hot data blocks provide information related to sequences of data addresses that are repeatedly accessed together. Hot data blocks may then be used to improve program performance.

  • Patent number: 7088415
Abstract: The invention miniaturizes a liquid crystal panel and thus provides a lightweight panel. A TFT provided so as to correspond to intersections of data lines and scanning lines. A dummy pixel area does not contribute to image display, while an effective pixel area contributes to image display. An identification pattern represents a sequence of scanning lines. By forming the identification pattern in the dummy pixel area, the data lines and a scanning line driving circuit can be provided closer to each other, and a picture frame area can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7088282
Abstract: A system and method for programmable high precision quantization of analog variable is provided. A signal conversion circuit includes a digital switch subtractor, an ADC, and a counter/adder. During the ADC's first sampling stage, the digital switch subtractor activates a bypass switch that allows the ADC to sample an original analog input signal and generate a first digital value using the original analog input signal. During the ADC's second sampling stage, the digital switch subtractor configures resistor network switches based upon the first digital value, thereby creating a voltage drop across the resistor network when the original analog input signal is applied. As a result, the digital switch subtractor's output is a modified analog signal, which the ADC samples and generates a second digital value. The counter/adder combines the first digital value and the second digital value to produce a digital output that a computer system processes.

  • Patent number: 7087506
Abstract: A method of providing a freestanding semiconductor layer on a conventional SOI or bulk-substrate silicon device includes forming an amorphous or polycrystalline mandrel on a monocrystalline base structure. A conformal polycrystalline semiconductor layer is then formed on the mandrel and on the base structure, wherein the polycrystalline layer contacts the base structure. The polycrystalline semiconductor layer is then recrystallized so that it has a crystallinity substantially similar to that of the base structure. Thus, a freestanding semiconductor layer is formed with a high degree of control of the thickness and height thereof and maintaining a uniformity of thickness.

  • Patent number: 7082162
Abstract: An encoder segments frames of video data and associates metadata with segments. The metadata elements can be associated with the segments that include areas of the frame associated with the metadata elements. A motion matcher can match segments of a reference frame to pixels of a current nonkey frame being encoded when a metadata associator associates elements of metadata with segments of the segmentation of the reference frame and associates a matched segment's metadata elements with matched areas of the current frame. The metadata elements might represent actions to be taken when a user of the video data indicates a selection of an area of an image that has that metadata element associated therewith. The metadata associations can be included in the encoded video data or deduced by a decoder. The metadata associations can be independent of segment indices or other segment changes.

  • Patent number: 7082517
Abstract: In a computer system for use as a symetrical multiprocessor, a superscalar microprocessor apparatus allows dispatching and executing multi-cycle and complex instructions Some control signals are generated in the dispatch unit and dispatched with the instruction to the Fixed Point Unit (FXU). Multiple execution pipes correspond to the instruction dispatch ports and the execution unit is a Fixed Point Unit (FXU) which contains three execution dataflow pipes (X, Y and Z) and one control pipe (R). The FXU logic then execute these instructions on the available FXU pipes. This results in optimum performance with little or no other complications. The presented technique places the flexibility of how these instructions will be executed in the FXU, where the actual execution takes place, instead of in the instruction decode or dispatch units or cracking by the compiler.
