  • Patent number: 9542195
Abstract: Systems and methods for BIOS failover. A processor reset is detected and a timer is set to expire after a predetermined time corresponding to a time to complete loading a first BIOS image from a first BIOS chip. Loading of the first BIOS image is initiated and it is determined whether the first BIOS image loaded successfully before the timer expired. If the timer expires before the first BIOS image is loaded successfully, loading is switched to a second BIOS image from a second BIOS chip. According to another aspect, loading of a first BIOS image from a first BIOS chip is initiated and a reset of a processor is detected. A reset counter is incremented in response to detecting a reset of the processor and loading is switched to a second BIOS image from a second BIOS chip when the reset counter reaches a reset threshold.

  • Patent number: 9544388
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for client-side predictive caching of content to facilitate instantaneous use of the content. If a user is likely to commence use of a content item through a client, the client is configured to predictively cache the content item before the user commences use. In doing so, the client may obtain metadata for the content item and an initial portion of the content item from another computing device. The client may then initialize various resources to facilitate instantaneous use of the content item by the client based at least in part on the metadata and the initial portion. The client-side cache may be divided into multiple segments with different content selection criteria.

  • Patent number: 9542014
Abstract: A stylus device is disclosed that provides a low power and low latency methodology of detecting a touch down event. In an aspect, the stylus device monitors an output of a pressure sensor of the stylus device using an analog comparator, a low power consumption component. When the output of the pressure sensor is greater than a first threshold value, thus indicating physical contact between the tip of the stylus device and a surface, the stylus device determines the output of the pressure sensor using an analog-to-digital converter, a higher power consumption component, to obtain a more accurate measurement of the pressure detected by the pressure sensor. When the output of the pressure sensor is less than a second threshold value, for example, indicative of non-use, the stylus device reverts back to monitoring the output of the pressure sensor using the analog comparator.

  • Patent number: 9544052
Abstract: A low cost, high reliability system for correcting aberrations in optical signals is disclosed. A foreoptic assembly, such as a telescope, receives an incoming optical signal and directs it to an active optical element, such as a fast steering mirror. The incoming optical signal is diffracted by a diffractive optical element to shape the image that is formed at a wavefront sensor, such as a quad-cell. The wavefront sensor measures a tip-tilt aberration of the incoming optical signal and the active optical element is adjusted to correct the measured aberration. An outgoing optical signal can be transmitted along substantially the same optical path as the incoming optical signal, but in the opposite direction. Thus, the aberration measured from the incoming optical signal can be automatically accounted for in the outgoing optical signal.
