  • Patent number: 5353998
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mixing solid or semi-solid waste materials with one or more additives to produce a solid nonpolluting end product is disclosed. A receiving hopper equipped with paddle-type chopping auger conveyors receives the solid or semi-solid waste material, reduces the size of lumps contained in the waste material and discharges the material into a batch hopper. The batch hopper is equipped with a weighing mechanism to determine the amount of waste material loaded into the batch hopper and thereby enable the calculation of the appropriate amount of additive(s). The mixture of waste materials and additive(s) is then transferred to a pin blender for homogenization. The homogenized mixture may then be hauled or pumped to a final disposal site.

  • Patent number: 5344255
Abstract: Oil, water and sand are separated from soil by screening and separation of coarse particles, agitating the soil in a solution of non-ionic biodegradable detergent to promote emulsification of the oil, separating sand from the emulsion, separating the oil in the emulsion from the detergent solution in a coalescing filter, and recycling the detergent solution. Preferably the soil and detergent solution is agitated first at low speed to separate any aggregate from the soil, and to provide a homogenized mixture of the soil and the detergent solution, and then agitating the homogenized mixture of the soil and the detergent at high speed to transfer the oil from the soil into an emulsion with the detergent solution. For reduced maintenance of the coalescing filter, the emulsion is passed through a hydrocyclone for removing fines before the emulsion is passed to the coalescing filter.

  • Patent number: 5007590
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mixing solid or semi-solid waste materials with one or more additives to produce a solid or semi-solid end product includes a separator with paddle-type chopper augers for receiving the solid or semi-solid waste material. The chopper augers reduce the size of lumps contained in the waste material and discharges the material into an homogenizer. The homogenizer is equipped with pin mixers to form a substantially homogeneous mass of waste material for loading into a blender unit where the mass is blended with selective additive(s).
