Abstract: The present invention relates to a MEMS device and related methods comprising a mirror for the measuring of light frequency. The MEMS mirror may rotate around a pivot point and is driven by a periodic force for continuous bi-directional motion without transient vibrations. The periodic force may further comprise transient functions comprising special waveforms when at the turn-around point of the bi-directional rotation.

Abstract: An optical system allows sharing of optical components and seed and pump light to achieve desired optical amplification in laser light while reducing the number of optical components and complexity of the overall optical system and achieving improved performance in lasers and reduced cost in fabrication and final lasers for large scale production of such lasers. Different optical gain sections can be used to allow for sharing of seed and pump light and sharing of optical components while providing multi-stage optical amplification.
Abstract: An optical filter is produced that has a desired spectral response. This is done by first decomposing the desired spectral response into individual simulated responses (F1 . . . F4) using a suitable computer program. Then tapered fiber filters are manufactured with parameters that closely match the individual responses. And finally the tapered fiber filters are concatenated on a single-mode fiber to produce the optical filter with a total response that closely matches the desired spectral response.
