Patent number: 6876987Abstract: An automated system obtains a confirmation of receipt of a notification by the intended recipient by having the recipient speak all or part of the notification. The words spoken by the recipient are determined by a computerized system using an automatic speech recognition algorithm. The computerized system determines whether the words spoken are those of the notification, and if they are, the system accepts the confirmation from the recipient. Optionally, the system additionally applies an automatic speaker recognition algorithm to determine whether the person reciting the notification has similar voice characteristics to the intended recipient based on a previous enrollment of the intended recipient's voice. The system can also record the recipient reciting the notification so that it can later be compared to the intended recipient's voice if the intended recipient repudiates the confirmation.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2001Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: ITT Defense, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence G. Bahler, Alan L. Higgins

Patent number: 6308153Abstract: A system and a method is disclosed for verifying a voice of a user conducting a telephone transaction. The system and method includes a mechanism for prompting the user to speak in a limited vocabulary. A feature extractor converts the limited vocabulary into a plurality of speech frames. A pre-processor is coupled to the feature extractor for processing the plurality of speech frames to produce a plurality of processed frames. The processing includes frame selection, which eliminates each of the plurality of speech frames having an absence of words. A Viterbi decoder is also coupled to said feature extractor for assigning a frame label to each of the plurality of speech frames to produce a plurality of frame labels. The processed frames and frame labels are then combined to produce a voice model, which includes each of the plurality of frame labels that correspond to the number of plurality of processed frames.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1999Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: ITT Defense, Inc.Inventors: William Y. Huang, Lawrence G. Bahler, Alan L. Higgins

Patent number: 5943322Abstract: Personal communications in a code division multiple access system operated without a base is provided with simultaneous transmission of a communications channel and a control channel, each spread by different PN codes. The PN code facilitates restricting communications on the network to a particular conversation mode and between identified radios. Transmissions are performed in a time division duplex manner in 62.5 milliseconds slots. One of the radios initiates transmission and maintains power control and time synchronization normally done by a base station. A network control station can voluntarily or by command transfer control of the network to any of the other radios on the network. Colliding transmissions from more than one radio require the radios to retry transmitting until one of the radios transmits in an earlier time slot.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1996Date of Patent: August 24, 1999Assignee: ITT Defense, Inc.Inventors: Michael A. Patent number: 5821526Abstract: A method for determining the line of sight of an electro-optical device mounted in a spacecraft such as a satellite. The electro-optical device includes an electo-optical element that detects impinging light energy and produces electrical pulses corresponding to the light energy detected. The method involves providing the electro-optical device with a scan mirror which is rotated to scan space to detect the light produced by a suitably bright star. Once detected, the scan mirror selectively directs the light produced by the detected star toward the electro-optical element which produces electrical pulses in response to the light. A computer on-board the spacecraft then compares the electrical pulses outpputed by the electro-optical device to a predetermined output expected for the star, to determine the line of sight of the electro-optical device.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1996Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Assignee: ITT Defense, Inc.Inventor: Ramuhalli Krishna

Patent number: 5785279Abstract: The present invention concerns a system and method for controlling which regions of the earth are image sensed by a satellite imaging system having location determination processing and command and control for pointing a satellite to a specific location about the earth for imaging. The invention utilizes exclusion zones, which define the regions of the earth restricted from image sensing. The exclusion zones are either defined by hard wired logic circuitry, or stored onto read only memory in association with a processor, or stored onto random access memory in association with a processor. The stored exclusion zones are tied to the satellite imaging systems location determination processing system and command and control system. The random access memory is set with the exclusion zone regions of the earth by encrypted signals transmitted from a ground station.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1996Date of Patent: July 28, 1998Assignee: ITT Defense, Inc.Inventor: Donald D. Patent number: 5687034Abstract: A mounting adapter for coupling a TV lens or other type of lens to a night vision device is provided. The mounting adapter is a longitudinal tubular member that has an exterior surface that tapers from a wider first end to a narrower second end. The interior surface of the wider first end includes a first threaded region to removably couple the mounting adapter to a night vision device. A second threaded region is located on the interior surface of the narrower second end for removably coupling a TV lens or other optical device to the mounting adapter. The mounting adapter defines a cavity for receiving a portion of an image intensifier tube, this cavity being located just past the first threaded region. At the end of the cavity there is defined an annular-shaped seat which abuts against the image intensifier tube when the mounting adapter is coupled to the night vision device.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1996Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: ITT Defense, Inc.Inventor: Gary Lynn Palmer

Patent number: 5683831Abstract: A battery pack device which can be removably attached to a SPH-4 helmet and used to power an ANVIS night vision goggle device which is mounted on the helmet. The battery pack device includes a battery pack assembly with a bent-shaped housing that enables the battery pack assembly to conform to the shape of the helmet. The housing of the battery pack assembly is adapted to hold only two replaceable AA battery sets to minimize the weight of the battery pack device. The battery pack assembly also includes electrical circuitry for selecting one of the two battery sets to power the night vision device. A support assembly adapted to be permanently fastened to the helmet is provided for removably attaching the battery pack assembly to the rear of the helmet.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1996Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Assignee: ITT Defense, Inc.Inventors: Albert Morton Baril, Roy Herbert Holmes, Mark Alan Bryant, Bradley Philippi
