Abstract: A biaxial electromagnetic actuator for a materials testing apparatus comprises a first electromagnetic actuator for imparting a linear force to an output shaft and a second, direct drive electromagnetic actuator for imparting a rotational force to the shaft. The shaft is mounted in two combination bearings which permit the shaft to move axially and rotationally. One of the bearings is located within a hollow cylindrical member which constitutes the armature of the direct drive actuator in order to provide a compact and symmetrical arrangement.

Abstract: An air valve for a paint gun includes a closure member configured for fitting in a valve chamber of a paint gun, which valve chamber intersects an air flow chamber of the gun. The closure member having two sealing points which, in use, when the valve is in its closed configuration, seal against an inner surface of the valve chamber at opposing sides of the air flow chamber thereby closing the airflow chamber. The valve further includes a conduit passing through the closure member providing fluid communication between the first and second sealing surfaces, and a biasing element for biasing the closure member into the closed position when no external load is applied.

Abstract: A thermal transfer dyesheet comprising a substrate bearing a region of a thermally transferable dye, the region including a first printable portion within the region having a first optical density, a second printable portion within the region having a second optical density, the difference in optical density between the first and second optical densities being detectable by a detection means on a dyesheet printer, and a third printable portion within the region having an optical density substantially the same as that of the first printable portion is provided, together with a method for manufacture of the dyesheet and an associated printer.

Abstract: A pump primarily for liquid paint includes first and second pistons reciprocable rectilinearly in respective first and second cylinders. The first and second pistons are moved relative to their respective pistons by operation of an A. C. electric motor the rotary output shaft of which is coupled to the first and second pistons by a constant velocity cam and a cam follower mechanism converting rotary motion of the output shaft into reciprocatory motion of the first and second pistons 180° out of phase with one another.

Abstract: A seal of the type includes a housing and a J- or U-shaped hasp, the housing having first and second openings to receive the legs of the hasp. The first opening communicating with a third opening of the housing to form a channel for a first leg of the hasp. A locking mechanism is provided within the housing which is biased to resist withdrawal of the first leg of the hasp through the first opening. The hasp being lockable within the housing such that it can only be removed by cutting of the first leg of the hasp. The legs of the hasp are substantially rigid and are connected together by a resilient hinge such that in a first, relaxed position the legs adopt a position in which they are not parallel, the legs being moveable to a second, parallel position against the resilient force of the hinge for insertion into the housing.

Abstract: A pumping arrangement for a paint circulation system comprising a reciprocating pump (13), and characterized by an alternating current induction motor (15), a rotary-to-linear motion converter (16) coupling the output of the induction motor (15) to a drive input of the pump (13), an alternating current frequency inverter (24a) controlling said induction motor, switch means (26) for reversing rotation of the induction motor (15) at the ends of the stroke of the reciprocating pump (13), and, a surge eliminator (28) communicating with the output side of said pump (13) to augment the pressure in the circulation system during stroke reversal of the pump.

Abstract: A retrofittable pressure gauge for a spray gun includes a pressure sensor, located in a pressure chamber, a power source and a display unit, all enclosed within a case, a passageway providing fluid communication between the pressure chamber and a pressurised interior space of the spray gun when the gauge is mounted on the spray gun and a mounting fixture configured for mounting the pressure gauge at a spreader valve or a trigger operated fluid valve of the spray gun.

Abstract: A security seal has a housing and a hasp moveable relative to the housing in a first direction between a locked position and a unlocked position. The hasp, in the locked position, is lockable to the housing by a disposable seal. The housing has an opening to allow the insertion of the disposable seal in a second direction different from the first direction. The hasp includes a first locking element engageable, in the locked position, with a second, matching locking element of the disposable seal to prevent movement of the hasp in the first direction toward the unlocked position and withdrawal of the disposable seal in the second direction. The hasp is attached to the housing so as to be both slidable and pivotable relative to the housing.

Abstract: The application describes breakable seal for a container, bag, pouch or reusable envelope which is closed by one part (2) locating over a second part (1), the second part (1) having an opening (7) for receiving the head (14) of the breakable seal (13) which locks into the opening in such a manner that it cannot be removed without breaking, the seal (13) in its inserted position locking the first part (2) in place over the second part (1) in a tamper evident fashion. The seal (13) has an extended neck portion (15b) between the line of weakness (18) and the main body part (15a) of the seal. Typically said one part (2) is the fastener tab of the zipped opening of a reusable envelope and the second part (1) is the enclosure or chamber of a lock unit mounted on the envelope, adjacent one end of the zipped opening.

Abstract: A seal has a head and a strap, the head having a chamber with an aperture through which the end of the strap can be fed. An arrangement is provided within the chamber to engage the strap so that it cannot be pulled out in the opposite direction to which is inserted. This arrangement includes resilient clip having arms which can flex and overlapping apertured members at the ends of the arms which are configured to provide a variable gap as the strap is pulled through. This clip is mounted in an insert which in turn is fitted in the chamber of the seal.

Abstract: A sealing device includes a body part for irremovably receiving the shank of a bolt. The body has a barrel for receiving the bolt, a resilient clip being provided within the barrel for locating behind a shoulder of the bolt. The clip has a head having a widenable gap formed there-through, the head being attached to legs at either side which locate against the sides and bottom of the interior of the barrel.

Abstract: The application describes a closeable bag, pouch or container with an opening which can be closed by means of a lock unit which cooperates with a disposable locking member to close the bag, pouch or container. The opening has first and second opposing sides. The lock unit is on the first side of the opening and has first and second apertures. The second side has first and second apertures corresponding to those of the lock unit. The locking member has first and second protrusions for location in the apertures of the lock unit and the second side of the opening. The second side is clamped between the locking member and the lock unit. At least the second protrusion of the locking member has a configuration such that it locks into the second aperture of the lock unit. The locking member has a line of weakness running between the protrusions such that the first protrusion can be disengaged from the lock unit in a first step and the second protrusion can be disengaged from the lock unit in a second step.

Abstract: Security seals (1) are widely used to demonstrate the integrity of a closed container, truck, roll pallet, cage or box. Typically such security seals (21) are made from plastics material and have a strap (2) with a plug (5) at one end and a socket (4) at the other end. The socket includes a one-way lock so that when the security seal (1) is threaded through a locking point and the plug (5) inserted into the socket (4) the plus is locked irremovably into the socket. The only way that the security seal can subsequently be removed is by destroying it. Such a security seal (1) includes a recognizable sequence of indicia (20) extending along substantially the whole length of the strap portion (2) . The presence of the recognizable sequence of indicia (20) along the length of the strap (2) make it almost impossible to cut such a strap (2) and reconnect the cut ends without disrupting the sequence of indicia (20) so that it is immediately evident that the security seal (1) has been tampered with.

Abstract: A pressure-sensitive locking device comprises a housing (2,20) having an opening therein, and an insertable member (1,21) adapted to be inserted into the opening whereupon it can enter into locking engagement with a locking member (4,36) in the housing. The locking member (4,36) is cooperable with a pressure-sensitive mechanism (7,28) in the housing to effect disengagement between the locking member (4,36) and the insertable member (1,21) upon a reduction of pressure.
