  • Patent number: 4061369
Abstract: A catch comprising a plunger member and a guide member, the plunger member being able to reciprocate in the guide member, with a nose of the plunger member extending out of the guide member, each of the members being a single moulding of a plastics material, one or both members including one or more tongues which extend primarily in the direction of relative reciprocation of the members and are resiliently flexible transversely to that direction, each tongue engaging a cam or a tongue on the other member in such a manner that forces act on the tongues having components parallel to the direction of relative reciprocation of the members, in the sense which urges the members towards a limit of relative reciprocation at which the extension of the nose out of the guide member is greatest, and if the nose is displaced into the guide member and released, then the plunger member returns to the said limit.

  • Patent number: 4042267
Abstract: Polythene bags are used to group together articles of clothing for transit. The invention relates to a security seal for use with such bags to prevent undetected transit theft. The seal according to the invention has two strip-like portions, which are formed with latching portions at points along the lengths of the strip-like portions. The seal is applied to the neck of the polythene bag, and during application the latching portions pierce the bag and pass through to engage in pairs with latching portions on the other strip-like portion. The latching portions have a weakened section, which breaks if the latching portions are urged out of engagement, thus a bag once sealed cannot be opened undamaged, as the seal will have broken latching portions indicating to a checker at the destination that the bag has been interfered with.

  • Patent number: 4021892
Abstract: The invention relates to straps which include an elongate strap portion, a housing at one end of the strap and a screw member which is adapted to be positioned in the housing to draw the strap portion through the housing. In particular, the invention relates to straps which are easily drawn to a predetermined tension about an article by means of a screw member having a weakened section between the head and the threaded shank. The weakened section fractures when a predetermined torque on the screw member is reached, preventing overtightening and also indicating that the required tension in the strap portion has been reached. The screw may have two heads, the second head being revealed when the first breaks off, to permit the strap portion to be released. Straps according to the invention may also be used as security seals, if no second head is provided, as then the strap must be broken to be removed.

  • Patent number: 3999871
Abstract: A pivotal mounting, especially for an automobile sun visor, comprising a one-piece plastics sleeve having a generally cylindrical bore, the radially inner surface of which, when viewed along the axis, has a first number of radial undulations spaced around its circumference, in combination with a generally cylindrical member which is a one-piece plastics moulding and lies substantially coaxially within the bore, the radially outer surface of the member, when viewed along the axis, having a second number of radial undulations spaced around its circumference, both numbers being greater in value than one, and being different, the arrangement being such that each set of said undulations can register firmly with the other at a third number of relative angular positions of the sleeve and the member, the third number being greater than the first and second numbers.

  • Patent number: 3993277
Abstract: A one-piece plastics fastener for securing to a support a wire whose ends are not available, the fastener comprising an axially-extending shank having a head formed at one end, the entire length of the shank and an adjacent portion of the head being bifurcated by a common slot, and the head further containing a transversely-extending passage which opens along one side to said slot and at each end to opposed sides of the head, whereby a central length of the wire can be passed through the slot and into the passage before anchoring the shank to the support.

  • Patent number: 3954295
Abstract: Tamperproof shackle seals formed as one-piece plastics mouldings and including, inter alia, the following features: a plug portion of non-circular outline for co-operation with a mating countersunk portion of the socket mouth to prevent effective insertion of a blade; a stop formed on the strap near the plug to limit the effective length of the strap when used with a padlock hasp; respective webs extending along the lengths of resilient fingers in the socket and connecting them either to the adjacent socket wall, or to those fingers disposed adjacently thereto on either side; to prevent free movement of the resilient fingers; and a filler for the plastics material which presents a barrier to heat re-sealing after tampering.

  • Patent number: 3945594
Abstract: A cable clamp which is a one piece plastics moulding, grips by two pairs of wings, and independently resists both pushing and pulling of the cable because the two pairs incline in opposite directions. The cable is slid along the gripping edges of the wings when being applied to the clamp, and the wings do not bend or crimp the cable. The clamp can have an integral closeable lid and a fastener for anchoring to an apertured support.
