    Abstract: The invention relates to a light source device having a high-voltage discharge lamp (1) on which a trigger line (10) for triggering the lamp is attached. The high-voltage discharge lamp (1) is formed such that an arc tube (7) having a pair of substantially cylindrical sealing portions (9R, 9L) formed on both sides in the longitudinal direction with a light emitting portion (8) in between is sealed with electrode assemblies (3R, 3L). The trigger line (10) is formed such that its one end (10a) is connected to a power supply lead (6), which is of the electrode assembly (3L) and protruded from the one sealing portion (9L), and its other end (10c) is wound around the outer circumference of the other sealing portion (9R).

    Abstract: A light utilization efficiency of a high-pressure discharge lamp is improved even in a case of reducing the size of a reflection mirror without using an auxiliary reflection mirror. In a lamp device where a portion of lights emitted from a discharge bulb to the periphery thereof in forward and backward directions for a predetermined range of angle is reflected at a concave reflection mirror and illuminated to a light collection area of a predetermined size formed forward of the lamp, a prism surface having an angle of refracting or deflecting at least a portion of lights emitted from the discharge bulb that is not reflected at the concave reflection mirror to the light collection area is formed to the outer peripheral surface of the discharge bulb.

The outer bulb is attached to an attaching member of a base by simple and convenient fabrication, and reliably prevents detachment of the outer bulb from the attaching member. An outer peripheral surface of a supporting post formed to the attaching member of the base and an inner peripheral surface of the outer bulb define a gap therebetween that may receive a heat resistant adhesive or filler. Convex portions facing the gap may be formed to the outer peripheral surface of the supporting post and the inner peripheral surface of the outer bulb, respectively, and a joint body for joining the outer bulb and the supporting post is defined between the outer peripheral surface of the supporting post and the inner peripheral surface of the outer bulb by the adhesive or filler in the gap.

    Abstract: Provided is a manufacturing method to prevent devitrification of a bulb in a high pressure discharge lamp used for a projector. The method is for manufacturing a high pressure discharge lamp which uses, as a light source, a bulb made of fused quartz and including a tungsten electrode, and which is horizontally installed when the lamp is driven for actual use. The method includes the step of initially driving the bulb with an optical axis thereof being set horizontally before the high pressure discharge lamp is shipped. In the initial driving step, the rotation angle around the optical axis of the bulb is offset by 45° or more and 135° or less relative to the rotation angle around the optical axis of the bulb when the lamp is driven for actual use.

    Abstract: Even when usable driving frequencies are limited, a lamp voltage is appropriately controlled. A high pressure discharge lamp ballast performs driving with a synthesized current waveform comprising a combination of first and second sets of current waveforms. The ballast includes: a control means for controlling content rates of each of the sets per unit time; a detection means for detecting a rotation synchronization signal for a color wheel; an output means for applying a synthesized current waveform in accordance with the synchronization signal and the content rates to a high pressure discharge lamp; and a detection means for detecting a lamp voltage. The sets are each in a waveform inverted so as to correspond to at least one of a rotational speed and segment positions of color wheel. A period of each of the first and second sets has a length equivalent to one rotation of the color wheel. Such cracks can be caused by heat generated from the discharge lamp. The short-arc discharge lamp is arranged with respect to an optical axis of the reflection mirror. A base of the discharge lamp is fixed to an insertion hole in a hollow neck unit formed in a bottom center of the reflection mirror. Furthermore, a base peripheral portion on the inner surface of the insertion hole in the hollow neck unit has a cylindrical shape with a narrow portion formed to extend from the cylindrical shape toward the reflection surface. Finally, an embossed portion extends from the narrow portion toward the reflection surface while diverging to contact the reflection surface.
