Publication number: 20030131852Abstract: The present invention is a face mask for use with registration of a patient's anatomy through medical imaging for image-guided surgical procedures. The mask includes a nasal bridge mount, medial orbital mounts and at least one side member which extends from the sides of the mask toward the patient's ears when in use. In a preferred embodiment, the face mask includes two side members which extend along the patient's head and behind the ears, similar to a pair of eyeglasses. The mask may also include a strap or other means for maintaining the mask upon the patient's head. The mask may be used to retain and position fiducial markers or attachment of medical or surgical instruments, such as tracking devices, for use during image-guided surgical procedures.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2002Publication date: July 17, 2003Applicant: IZI CorporationInventors: Helen Zinreich Shafer, Eva Zinreich

Patent number: 5628733Abstract: A surgical drain for draining wounds is disclosed. The drain has a tube-like body forming a lumen. The body of the drain includes a plurality of perforations therein. The drain also has a plunger for removing debris from the lumen and perforations of the drain. The plunger has a scraper, a line and a handle. The scraper of the plunger is generally located in the lumen of the body. The handle of the plunger is generally located so as to be accessible to a user. The line of the plunger generally extends through the lumen and connects the scraper and handle. The drain may have more than one plunger.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1994Date of Patent: May 13, 1997Assignee: IZI CorporationInventors: S. James Zinreich, Eva S. Zinreich, Douglas E. Mattox

Patent number: 5474569Abstract: A set of post-surgical gross pathology specimen marking devices which may be used to identify various surfaces of pathology specimens is presented. The device includes a set of pathology specimen markers which are releasably attached to a holder. The markers disclosed are of various shapes and designs, and each includes a gripper element. The markers are designed such that the gripper element may be manipulated to allow a portion of a pathology specimen to be pinched, pierced, or clipped by the gripper element thereby attaching the marker to the specimen. The markers are designed so they may be manipulated by using a tool (such as forceps) to attach the specimen marker to a pathology specimen in a matter of seconds.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1993Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Assignee: Izi CorporationInventors: Simion J. Patent number: 5469847Abstract: The device of the present application is an adhesive surface marker comprising a gel sealed by a casing and membrane structure. The markers of the present invention can include a cavity for receiving imaging materials. The markers provide means for marking patients and diagnostic images taken of those patients through different methods including X-Ray, Computerized Tomography, Positron Emission Tomograph, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging among others, retain their shape and size, and do not suffer from water-loss which can lead to reduced density to certain radio-graphic modalities (e.g. MRI).Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1994Date of Patent: November 28, 1995Assignee: IZI CorporationInventors: Simion J. Zinreich, Eva S. Zinreich, Rex O. Bare

Patent number: 5407440Abstract: A radiation therapy skin marking device which may be used to delineate a radiation therapy portal area on a patient's skin surface. The device includes a set of radiation therapy skin markers which are releasably attached to a backing liner and include an adhesive surface such that the markers may be releasably attached to a patient's skin surface. The markers include printed lines so as to facilitate radiation therapy treatments by more obviously defining a radiation therapy portal area. The markers include various shapes including, for example, a marker of substantially circular shape with a ninety degree wedge cut therefrom such that the marker may be used to outline a ninety degree corner and a marker of substantially circular shape with a circular cut-out center such that the marker is defined by a circular outer edge and a circular inner edge both of which circular edges share a common center point.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1994Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Izi CorporationInventors: Simion Zinreich, Eva S. Zinreich, Earl F. Robinson

Patent number: 5368030Abstract: The device of the present application, an adhesive disk, relates to non-invasive multi-modality radiographic surface markers and provides means for marking patients and diagnostic images taken of those patients through different methods including X-Ray, Computerized Tomography, Positron Emission Tomograph, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging among others. The device of the present application also provides means for enabling the accurate location of internal structures of a patient.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1992Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Assignee: Izi CorporationInventors: Simion J.
