  • Patent number: 5090896
Abstract: With a fluid fuel driven standard heating for motor vehicles, whose combustion chambers are equipped as vaporizer burners, a heater plug with open heater coils up to now would be installed in the usual way. What is disadvantageous for the operation, particularly in the starting, is the voltage dependence of such a heater plug. Also, with time an increasing carbonization would be established. According to the invention the vaporizing of the liquid fuel occurs under a seal by the use of a rod heater plug. The ignition can--independent of voltage--occur with the help of a spark plug (high voltage electrode). In a construction design the vaporizer is developed as a heat pipe, in which the rod heater plug is arranged.

  • Patent number: 5048752
Abstract: A heat carrier circulation for a vehicle heating system includes a heater independent of the engine. The heat carrier circulation contains a forward line which leads from the internal combustion vehicle drive engine to a heating system heat exchanger for the vehicle interior and which has a parallel branch in which the heater is disposed; and a return line leading from the heating system heat exchanger back to the internal combustion engine. The heat exchanger circulation contains a connection which goes from the return line to the part of the forward line located ahead of the heater. Installed in the heat carrier circulation is a settable valve which controls the ratio at which heat carrier flows to the heater from the connecting line and from the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 5045097
Abstract: A soot filter for diesel-powered vehicles has two diesel particle filters which are connected to a preliminary muffler via separate ducts, which open radially into a filter prechamber. The exhaust gases can be sent through one of the diesel particle filters or the other by a damper control device, with the dampers being arranged far away from the filters, in the vicinity of the preliminary muffler. Thus, the dampers are located at a fairly great distance from the burner, which is arranged on the front side of the diesel particle filter, and which is designed such that it produces an approximately disk-shaped flame that is directed toward the front side of the diesel particle filter.

  • Patent number: 5037292
Abstract: Flame monitoring is normally performed in a space heater for a motor vehicle in order to stop the fuel supply within a certain period of time in the case of interruption of the flame. If interruption of the flame is detected by measuring the temperature on the heat exchanger or the combustion chamber of the heater in order to detect a possibly relatively rapid temperature drop, it must be ensured that the temperature at the test point can indeed decrease rapidly enough. It is therefore necessary constantly to monitor the electric motor of the blower for the combustion air or for the heating air flowing past the heat exchanger, so that the combustion chamber or the heat exchanger will indeed cool after interruption of the flame. The operation of the blower motor is monitored by briefly interrupting the power supply and measuring the generator voltage generated by the motor that continues to rotate. If there is no generator voltage or it is too low, a malfunction indication is generated.

  • Patent number: 5022851
Abstract: A heating device for pre-heating liquid fuel, especially diesel fuel and for heating devices of a low heating performance which are independent from a motor having a heating performance which is suitable for mounting into vehicles, which are driven by the liquid fuel. The pre-heating is effected by a transmission of heat of the exhaust gas to the fuel of the heating device, the fuel being lead through a continuous tubular wrapping in one layer or through a hollow cylinder formed or positioned around the exhaust pipe. This wrapping or hollow cylinder is part of the fuel main from the fuel tank to the fuel supply pump of the heating device. A pre-heating of the content of the tank is effected by the return of the pre-heated, but not burnt fuel through a fuel return main back into the tank. A heat transmitting jacket is advantageously disposed between the wrapping, or a hollow cylinder and the exhaust gas pipe.

  • Patent number: 4984736
Abstract: By temperature gradient detection it is determined for the liquid combustion chamber auxiliary heater for motor vehicles, whether e.g. a flame blow-off has taken place, which has to be interpreted as a malfunction and hwich necessitates the discontinuation of fuel supply. Alternatively, it might merely show the switching from a high setting to a low setting. In the latter case a temperature drop to a lower operation temperature occurs also. However, the temperature drop is not as steep as in the case of a flame blow-off. At certain points in time t.sub.1 the target temperature for a point in time t.sub.2 is calculated by the detected temperature according to a certain algorithm having specific device properties as parameters. At this point in time the calculated target temperature is checked for errors.

  • Patent number: 4934907
Abstract: A device for transporting and preheating fuel which is susceptible to cold temperatures comprises a pump which has an electromagnetic coil which is supplied with current to move a plunger for pumping the fuel so as to transport it. The plunger is returned for example, by a return spring and the electromagnetic coil is set out so that a maximum portion of the coil heats a fuel as it is passed through a pumping space. In accordance with the method of the invention, the coil has its own current supply control which advantageously may be set to supply a heating current which is in excess of that required for moving the plunger. A return spring set for returning the plunger may also be made stronger than necessary to effect return and the timing of the operation of the coil for moving the plunger may be set to be longer than necessary in order to keep the coil at a higher operating temperature and thus transform more heat to the fuel.

  • Patent number: 4931011
Abstract: Formerly unpleasant blue smoke was generated in a vaporizer burner for auxiliary heaters for motor vehicles once the fuel supply was cut off and the flame died down, as the remaining fuel was merely heated up, but not burnt. According to the invention the glow plug is activated for a determined period of time during the after-running phase of the combustion air blower. By this means practically all remaining fuel is vaporized and burnt and therefore the forming of blue smoke and remaining residues in the area of the plug muff and/or the burner is avoided.
