Abstract: In a method for manufacturing a web of a ground covering having a web of pile fabric forming the upper side and cushion elements attached to its underside in grating-type configuration, in order to simplify the manufacturing process, plastic agglomerates corresponding to the cushion elements are produced from a pasty plastics material from which an elastomer is formable by curing, and are deposited in grating-type configuration on an endless conveyer belt; first a reinforcement web with openings therein and next the underside of the web of pile fabric are then placed on the plastic agglomerates such that the plastics material penetrates the openings in the reinforcement web and wets the underside of the web of pile fabric; the plastics material is subsequently cured by heat treatment and the web of pile fabric, the reinforcement web and the cushion elements are thereby firmly bonded to one another.

Abstract: A backing mat for a water-permeable artificial grass having a grid-like structure consisting of elastically pliable foamed plastic sections and openings arranged therebetween. To improve the qualities of the artificial grass with regard to tread elasticity bulbous projections are formed of foamed plastic on the underside of the backing mat at the edges of the openings.

Abstract: The invention relates to a ground covering for open spaces, with which a water-permeable filter mat impervious to granular material is bonded to the underside of a water-permeable artificial grass so that a filling of granular material in the pile of the grass will not be swept away to the edges of the surface covered by the ground covering even in heavy rain since the water may drain immediately through the artificial grass and the filter mat to the underside of the ground covering.

Abstract: An artificial lawn comprising a base textile fabric, woven or knit with an open weave to which the pile yarns are secured; the fabric back is formed with projections extending from the plane thereof. The base fabric is coated with an adhesive, holding material solely along the projections, leaving the open weave porous for drainage of water. A novel underliner or underlayer is provided having enhanced resiliency and improved porosity. An improved method and apparatus for securing the lawn to the ground is provided.
