Patents Assigned to J. Ray McDermott S.A.
  • Patent number: 6176193
Abstract: A turret system is installed on an existing vessel such as an oil tanker. A portion of the existing structure, such as the center splice, is removed to leave an opening. A support structure is attached within the opening. The support structure includes a turret support structure. The turret structure is assembled within the turret support structure. Fluid piping is installed between the turret structure and the pipework of the vessel, including a manifold structure and a fluid swivel. The turret assembly is cladded for environmental protection. In one arrangement, the turret system is within the profile of the original vessel. In another arrangement, the turret system is external to the profile of the original vessel.

  • Patent number: 6148759
Abstract: A remotely operated ROV service vessel. The remotely operated vessel utilizes dynamic positioning. The vessel is remotely controlled by radio telemetry, preferably modular in construction, and may be semi-submersible. The vessel contains a radio telemetry package, one or more generators, an umbilical winch for lowering and raising an ROV, space for receiving and storing an ROV, and ballast control.

  • Patent number: 6116290
Abstract: An internally insulated, corrosion resistant pipeline. An inner fluid barrier is formed preferably by a polymer liner. The outer pipe may be a steel pipe. The liner is provided with a plurality of passages or an open annulus. The passages in the liner or annulus between the pipe and liner are filled with an insulation material.

  • Patent number: 5951227
Abstract: A deep water lowering apparatus that utilizes dual davit structures mounted on a barge. Each davit structure has a pulling wire rope line spooled on a storage winch. Each pulling line is reeved onto a traction winch and through upper and lower sheaves on the davit structure. Corresponding ends of each pulling line are connected together on an equalizer beam. An adaptor box is suspended from a spreader bar provided with a dog leg center portion for effecting the load transfer from the crane. The lowering tool that supports the load is directly received in the adaptor box and transfers the load to the lowering apparatus without the need for rigging work.

  • Patent number: 5857715
Abstract: A pipeline branch arrangement that forms a piggable-Y at the intersection with the trunkline and is oriented vertically relative to the trunkline. The approach piping to all legs of the piggable-Y are configured to incorporate 3D bend or larger radii as required. This arrangement permits the passage of foam pigs, hard pigs, and smart pigs. Rotation of the piggable-Y to the vertical plane configures all of the branch piping in the vertical plane, which permits the support sled width for pipe laying to be kept to a minimum. The arrangement of the 3D bends fore and aft of the piggable-Y aligns the trunkline ends in a co-linear manner. This permits the configuration to be installed by conventional S-Lay techniques.

  • Patent number: 5718538
Abstract: A vertical reel pipelaying vessel having a vertical pipe storage reel rotatably positioned aft of midship and a vertical aligner wheel positioned forward of the reel. A guide means includes supports for the aligner wheel on the vessel to permit rotational movement about the axle of the aligner wheel. A moon pool is positioned forward of the reel. A direction means is provided for pivoting the aligner wheel over the moon pool to allow pipe takeoff forward of the axis of the aligner wheel and into the moon pool. The aligner wheel is provided with strain gauges along the axle to measure directly the tension of the pipeline being unspooled and passing into the water through the moon pool.

  • Patent number: 5716088
Abstract: A multiple use trunnion connection for use with a lifting spreader bar or frame. A trunnion connection is placed at each end of a lifting spreader that is sized for the particular lift. Each trunnion is provided with a set of horizontally and vertically disposed pins that are positioned to retain the lifting slings in place on the trunnion during the lift without the need for shackles and lifting eyes.
