  • Patent number: 5477794
Abstract: A suturing apparatus for connecting tissue edges using a single-thread overcast stitch arrangement incorporates an arc needle and a forked rocking gripper provided at an end of a gripper rod that passes through an aperture in the front wall of the apparatus housing. The needle and the gripper are driven in a rocking motion and cooperate to form the stitches with the arc needle transversely piercing the tissue edges and the gripper being displaceable along an arcuate path over the tissue edges. The gripper rod passes through the front wall of the apparatus housing at which it is connected through a universal joint. The gripper rod is displaceable inside the apparatus housing along a path that is symmetrical to the arcuate path of the rocking gripper.

  • Patent number: 5257589
Abstract: An overcasting machine for use in sewing mated insoles to uppers with gathering of the uppers relative to the insoles is disclosed wherein a step-wise driven advance disk engages the uppers and an undriven pressure disk engages the insoles at a nip area between the disks, which are spring-loaded towards each other. The advance disk drives the material of the uppers which in turn at least in part drives the material of the insoles in an advance direction during sewing. A blade is provided which extends into the nip area between the advance and the pressure disks in order to slightly separate the uppers from the insoles so that mutual slippage between them and resulting gathering of the uppers is made possible.

  • Patent number: 5182999
Abstract: The invention concerns a sewing machine having a sewing-material feeder to advance the material being sewn in a step-wise manner and having furthermore a drive shaft pivoting to-and-fro in order to intermittently move the sewing-material feeder in the direction of advance of the material being sewn. The drive shaft includes a radially projecting drive crank connected by a linkbar of corresponding length to an output crank pivotably supported on a sleeve to pivot about an axis parallel to the drive shaft. The sleeve is rotatably supported on an output shaft cooperating with the sewing-material feeder and can be rotated by means of a stitch-length adjustment device. The output shaft is also parallel to the drive shaft and is driven by the output crank through a transmission provided on the sleeve. By this arrangement, a high compactness and a very advantageous force transmission between drive and output shafts can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 5178082
Abstract: A blind-stitch sewing machine has an elastic fabric bender to bulge the material to be sewed following each step of advance through an aperture of a throat plate into the arcuate path of motion of an arc needle pivoting to-and-fro transversely to the direction of advance of the material being sewed, and a stop for the bulged material mounted on the throat plate. The stop of the throat plate is designed for the purpose of sewing labels having unevenly thick rims onto the inside of finished garments along the label rim so that the arc needle pierces the edge of the label laid on the garment and emerges from the garment and the label rim is lifted off the garment at the stop so that only the garment is forced by the fabric bender against the stop.

  • Patent number: 5129339
Abstract: The invention pertains to a blind-stitch sewing machine with a plate-shaped fabric bender to make a sewing material bulge in to the arcuate path of an arc needle. The fabric bender extends in a plane perpendicular to the path of the arc needle and is pivotable to-and-fro in this plane by means of a drive shaft extending perpendicular to this plane. The fabric bender is rotatably supported in a slot of a support assembly projecting from the drive shaft to pivot about an axis parallel to this drive shaft, and furthermore is spring biased away from the drive shaft. To achieve a narrow construction of the fabric bender and of its support assembly, the drive shaft is hollow and a torsion spring is provided to load the fabric bender. The torsion spring is mounted in the borehole of the hollow shaft where adequate space is available to install the spring.

  • Patent number: 4896617
Abstract: The invention concerns a blind stitch sewing machine with an oscillating fabric deflector to make the sewing material bulge into the arcuate path of the arc needle. The minimum spacing of the deflector relative to the arc needle can be adjusted in relation to the thickness of the sewing material detected by a sewing material sensor. A stepping motor is provided to adjust this minimum spacing. A stepping motor control circuit is connected to the sewing material sensor, and to a contact pickup for the arc needle and fabric deflector, the stepping motor being controlled in such a manner that, upon a control circuit start signal, it moves into a particular start position and proceeds during the ensuing sewing by one step per stitch reducing the minimum spacing of the fabric deflector until the contact pickup emits a contact signal relative to the arc needle and the fabric deflector during a measurement window signal.

  • Patent number: 4712495
Abstract: A chain-stitch blind stitch sewing machine having an arcuate needle to oscillate about an axis such that it passes through material to be sewn. An adjustable stitch loosening finger is attached to the sewing machine such that its position may be adjusted between a thread engaging position and a non-operative position. In its thread engaging position, the finger contacts the thread during the formation of each chain-stitch between two entry sites of the needle to form an additional free thread loop. A relatively loosely sewn point is thereby obtained. When the finger is in its non-operative position, the thread between the two entry sites will rest against the material being sewn to form a tightly sewn point.
