    Abstract: A welding helmet includes a shutter assembly with an electronically controlled liquid crystal shutter in a compact housing for physical mounting near the face area of a protective shell. The electronic controls provide for the customary auto-darkening function as well as two user selectable fixed shade settings which permit the user to fix the shutter shade in one of a plurality of preselected and factory set shade settings. When fixed at a shade setting, the user is given a visual indication that the helmet is not in an auto-darkening mode. The housing allows for two PC boards to be mounted above and below the optical shutter, with a flexible cable interconnecting the two PC boards so as to not interfere with or obscure the user's vision. The controls are all single function, readily accessible and continuous so that multiple operation of any one control does not switch the associated function off, allowing a user to continuously operate any control repeatedly to ensure its selection.

    Abstract: Within a welding helmet, an easily removable electronic quick change ("EQC") cartridge is retained into an integral cartridge housing. The EQC cartridge has slots on its top which can accommodate flanges from the housing, and tabs on its sides for insertion into slots of the housing. The tabs are located on the ends of an elastic spring bar which is inside the EQC cartridge. Switches connected to the spring bar by an elevated support lie above the EQC cartridge, which when compressed internalize the tabs inside the cartridge. When the EQC cartridge is positioned within the housing, the switches are released and the tabs extend through the slots of the housing.

    Abstract: A safety spectacle providing front and lateral impact protection. The spectacle includes a frame, a removable lens incorporating integrated upper and lower side shields connected to the frame by means of a nose bridge, and a pair of length and pantoscopic adjustable temples arm assemblies hingedly connected to the sides of the frames. The temple arm assemblies are adjustable lengthwise by earpieces which can be locked and unlocked into slots on an intermediate arm receptacle by means of a quarter turn barrel configuration. The temples are adjustable pantoscopically by means of a pair of semicircular arms, both of which are hinged at the front to the side of the frame between a pair of outward sloping walls and inserted at the rear into a threaded ferrule. One arm is threaded inside the ferrule and allowed to move in and out when the ferrule is rotated while the mating semicircular arm is stationary, thereby varying the angle of the temple within the sloped walls and thus the frame.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a welding helmet that provides two levels of protection to the eyes and face of the helmet user. The helmet comprises a protective shell having an opaque front wall extending in the front of the face of the wearer and two side walls extending rearwardly from the front wall along the sides of the face of the wearer. The front wall includes a relatively transparent viewing means for allowing the wearer to see beyond the front wall. A visor is attached to the helmet for removably covering the viewing means of the shell with a relatively protective welder's glass. The helmet generally includes means contained sustantially within the protective shell for mounting the visor to the protective shell. According to certain embodiments, the means for mounting the visor includes the visor having a connection arm with the first end and a second end. The connecting arm is pivotally mounted at a point intermediate first end and the second end to one of the side walls of the shell.
