  • Patent number: 4152884
Abstract: A lawn mower with catcher accommodation and having a mower housing and a rear portion on the housing extending along an upright plane transverse to the mower central axis. A handle is attached to the housing and extends rearwardly therefrom and the housing has a grass clipping discharge opening directed to the rear on the mower and to one side of the central axis. The mower has a vertically mounted hinged door extending over the discharge opening and being swingable to an open position and against a spring. A grass catcher can be mounted on the mower and it has an adapter abutting the mower and in contact with the spring-urged door which secures the catcher on the mower. The mower door has an impact panel therein for engaging the materials blown and thrown by the mower and against the door when the door is closed.

  • Patent number: 4149363
Abstract: A lawn mower catcher of the bag type including a grass inlet opening at one end thereof and having a rigid door or mower adapter connected at the one end and extending over the opening. The door or adapter itself has a grass inlet opening for entry of the grass into the bag catcher. The door or adapter is pivotally attached to the fabric or bag portion of the catcher and can be opened and closed on the catcher opening and has attaching members for mounting onto a mower. Also, the catcher has another mower attachment, all so that the opposite ends of the catcher can be attached to the mower and extends rearwardly thereof and within the lateral limits of the mower and the mower handle extends underneath the catcher for upwardly supporting the catcher when the catcher is filled or sags. The catcher also has an additional handle for uprightly supporting the catcher to empty the grass therefrom when the door is opened.

  • Patent number: 4149362
Abstract: A combined lawn mower and grass catcher including a rotary type mower having a rearwardly directed discharge opening and a grass catcher mounted on the mower and extending to the rear thereof and within the lateral confines of the mower. A mower handle extends rearwardly of the mower with a portion thereof underneath the catcher for protecting and supporting the catcher if and when the latter extends down to the supporting portion of the mower handle. The catcher and the mower have inter-engaging members for attaching and removing the catcher relative to the mower, including a handle at the rear end of the catcher for attaching to the mower handle and for lifting the catcher. A spring-biased discharge opening door is mounted on the mower for engaging the front portion of the catcher and thereby securing the catcher so the mower under the influence of the spring acting on the mower door.

  • Patent number: 4135351
Abstract: A rotary lawn mower grass mulcher assembly having a mower housing with a discharge opening over which two plates are disposed with each plate having airholes extending therethrough and with the holes being aligned offset between the two plates. Air is permitted to escape through the holes, but grass and like debris does not have free passage through the holes, and thus the mulcher assembly causes the grass clippings to remain in the mower housing for mulching or recutting action. The two plates are assembled together, and the plates are spaced apart with one thereof toward the outer end of the housing opening being angled downwardly and outwardly, all for permitting the passage of air but deflecting any debris downward to the ground.

  • Patent number: 4134249
Abstract: A mulching type of lawn mower including a mower housing and a cutter blade therein and with vertically adjustable wheels on the housing. A comb member with a drag flap or panel is attached to the housing at the rear thereof and extends downwardly toward the ground in two sections, with the forward one of the two sections being shorter than the rearward one, and with the two sections or panels terminating in lower edges which brush the cut grass clippings and thereby comb them into the turf.

  • Patent number: 4108456
Abstract: A lawn mower handle mounting wherein a mower has a handle attached thereto and the handle includes two end portions pivotally mounted to the mower. A projection extends on the mower adjacent the pivot axis of the handle and the handle can slide over the projection to be disposed therebelow and the handle is spring-biased to be retained underneath the projection. A rib extends underneath the projection at an angle to engage the upper edge of the handle, and a block extends below the handle so that the handle is secure and snug between the rib and the block, as urged thereagainst by the spring action mentioned. A pivot pin interconnects the handle and the mower and allows the handle to be sprung from underneath the projection and free thereof so that the handle can be pivoted upwardly relative to the mower, when desired.

  • Patent number: 4108120
Abstract: A governor control for an internal combustion engine of the type wherein air is blown in the operation of the engine to move an air vane connected with the throttle plate for throttling the engine. An operator-controlled handle is movably mounted and interconnects with the air vane through a spring and a flexible cable, all for placing spring tension on the air vane to resist the blowing by the engine and thus govern the engine's speed. A movable stop member is operative on the handle and is spring urged so that the handle can be set in normal engine speed positions and thus cause the engine to run slow or fast, and the handle can also be set in an overriding and spring-urged position to cause the engine to run faster and the spring will automatically return the handle to the fast engine speed position when the operator releases the handle.

  • Patent number: 3992858
Abstract: A hydraulic system for controlling a gang of lawn mowers including a hydraulic pump and a multi-section valve and hydraulic motors driving the mowers. Hydraulic cylinders are also included in the system, for raising and lowering the mowers, and a check valve is connected with the cylinders for controlling the lowering of the mowers. The main valve is arranged with a plurality of spools which control the aforementioned functions and with the spools being set by means of a single handle so that the operator can perform the aforementioned functions through maneuvering the single handle for each set of hydraulic motors and cylinders. A hydraulic flow restrictor is included in the system for reversing the motors at a speed slower than the forward motor speed, for a slower reverse rotation of the mowers, such as for back-lapping of the mowers.

  • Patent number: 3990125
Abstract: A mobile sweeper having a body and ground-engaging wheels. The body defines a trash compartment which has a bin having a top plate such that trash can be swept into the bin and also thereabove onto the top plate. Sweeping reels are disposed in front of and rearwardly of the body compartment for sweeping the trash into and onto the bin. A closure or door is included in the body and can be opened for dumping the trash from the compartment, and a hydraulic system is employed for opening the door and for effecting the dumping of the trash.

  • Patent number: 3980068
Abstract: A gasoline powered machine, shown in the form of a lawn mower, having a gasoline engine, and a mower deck for a housing, and a mower handle, and ground engaging wheels. The engine has the usual electric circuitry connected thereto, and two electric switches are connected with the circuitry for grounding the circuit and thereby stopping operation of the engine when the switches are not being operated, and that is when they are then in a normally-closed position. Therefore, the operator must be in physical contact with either of the two switches to maintain either one in an open position in order to have the gasoline engine operating.

  • Patent number: 3973379
Abstract: A powered lawn mower hydraulic system for use with a reel type of mower. The system includes a hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor and a hydraulic valve, all interconnected with hydraulic hoses or lines. The valve permits reversing of the direction of rotation of the motor which is driving the mower reel, and there is a hydraulic flow restrictor in the reversing line for limiting the speed of the motor, and thus the mower, in the reversing direction. Also, there is shown a relief valve for limiting the hydraulic pressure in the reversing mode, and there is also shown a relief valve for limiting the hydraulic pressure in the forward mode.
