    Abstract: A suction braking apparatus for the braking and overlapping of sheets coming from a duplex crosscutter is provided which has a single suction chamber and can be quickly changed over to accommodate sheets of a different width. The suction chamber is provided with two groups of suction holes arranged in a row in the direction of travel of the sheets and has cover plates perforated in register therewith and each has a perforated control belt. Each group of suction holes has associated therewith a cover slide which is movable at a right angle to the direction of sheet travel with the two cover slides reciprocally covering a group of suction holes, starting from one of the two side edges and up to a junction extending in the direction of sheet travel.

    Abstract: An air nozzle for a jet drier has a nozzle slot extending transverse to a moving material web during use and has an elongated nozzle lip which together with the material web forms the boundary of a channel for drying air. The elongated nozzle lip has a planar portion and at least one stabilizing zone for the drying air which extends over the entire width of the nozzle and which interrupts the planarity of the planar portion of the nozzle lip. Each stabilizing zone includes equalizing openings, so spaced from the nozzle slot that stabilization of the flow is assured with widely varying drying air velocities.

An apparatus therefor comprises a roller for supporting said sheet material, and a rotary hollow knife aligned with one longitudinal edge of the sheet material adjacent the supporting roller, the axis of rotation of the hollow knife being substantially parallel to the longitudinal edge.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for making a fillet seam closure on folding boxes fabricated from box-board internally lined with aluminum foil and coated with a thermal plastic resin includes folding the fillet seam along a fold line, holding the areas of the fillet seam to be welded together by applying compressive forces along a line parallel to the desired weld seam and slightly spaced therefrom between the weld seam and the fold line and ultrasonically welding the fillet seam with a simultaneous application of pressure in the weld seam which gradually decreases from the weld seam center line to the edge facing the fold line to effect the displacement of the thermal plastic resin from the center line towards the edge in the formation of a V-joint. The weld is allowed to cool off and the compressor forces are maintained during the welding and the cooling operations.

    Abstract: A labeling machine has a revolving carrier on which at least one pickup element has a convexly curved receiving surface eccentrically journaled between the receiving surface and the center of curvature thereof. A drive is provided for each pickup element comprising a stationary cam and an arm which follows the cam and imparts to the pickup element an oscillating movement through a drive shaft. The stationary cam comprises a cylindrical cam truck and the drive shaft of each pickup element is coupled with the associated arm for movement by the stationary cam along the drive shaft through a cam consisting of two opposite parallel cam sections. The cam sections extend at an angle to a plane perpendicular to the shaft axis and cam followers are associated with these cam sections. The distance between the two cam sections is adjustable such that any free play present between them and the cam followers can be eliminated.

The foot portion has a volume at least as great as the refill volume of the measuring vessel and a feedline to the measuring vessel is disposed within the neck portion and terminates in proximity to the bottom of the foot portion. A check valve opens and closes the foot portion inlet by means of compressed gas which is controllable by sensing devices at the measuring vessel.
