Abstract: A display apparatus includes a user input circuitry for receiving user commands and a display for outputting video content and a user interface. The video content includes metadata. The apparatus also includes a processor in communication with the user input circuitry and the display, and non-transitory computer readable media in communication with the processor that stores instruction code. The instruction code is executed by the processor and causes the processor to receive, from the user input circuitry, a first scene command to search for scenes in the video content of a scene type. The processor determines, from the metadata, one or more scenes in the video content related to the scene type. The processor then updates the user interface to depict one or more scene images related to the one or more scenes related to the scene type.

Abstract: A display apparatus includes a display for displaying video content and a user interface; a processor in communication with the presence detection circuitry and the display; and non-transitory computer readable media in communication with the processor that stores instruction code. The instruction code is executed by the processor and causes the processor to receive data that relates a smart appliance state to display apparatus usage. The processor also determines current display apparatus usage; and determines a proposed smart appliance state corresponding to the current display apparatus usage based on received data. The processor adjusts the smart appliance to the determined state.

The processor then determines from the first search command one or more potential search commands related to the first search command and updates the user interface to depict one or more of the potential search commands. The processor then receives, from the user input circuitry, a second search command that corresponds to one of the one or more potential search commands; and determines video content associated with the first and second search commands.

The method may also include pre-downloading associated network content for the player based on the identifying, wherein the content buffer requests associated network content from the server, and providing the associated network content to the player. Another embodiment is directed to a device configured to run a content buffer and provide content for a content player.

In one embodiment, a method includes detecting a module placed on a module interface of the display device and initiating a pairing operation with the module. Operation of the module may be activated to provide functional output to the display device. Connectivity of the module with a second module associated with the module interface may be enabled by a display device such that the module and second module provides interoperability of at least one function of the module and the second module for use with the display device. In addition to supporting one or more modules by a display device, modules may be moved and connected to one or more other display devices in the ecosystem. In certain embodiments an interface is provided for coupling multiple physical units to a display device.

In one embodiment, a method includes transmitting a discover message by a discovery engine of an application executed by the device, receiving a response message from a second device, transmitting a request to the second device for a profile and receiving an acknowledgement of the request for profile for the second device. The method can also include transmitting a request for capabilities associated with the second device, receiving acknowledgement of the request for capabilities, and transmitting a control command to the second device formatted by the application based on the acknowledgement of the request for profile. Other embodiments are directed to receiving discover messages, requests for profile information and capabilities and establishing a communication channel between devices.
