  • Patent number: 4459668
Abstract: An automatic train control device which has a detector for detecting whether a newly received train speed signal instruction is for instructing the train to run at a lower speed than that according to an earlier signal while the train is running at a speed within the range according to the instruction received by an earlier signal, and thus finds itself running at a speed exceeding the speed according to the newly received instruction. A differential speed detector, which is connected to the signal detector, detects the excess of the train speed over the speed according to the newly received instruction. A memory outputs one braking instruction from among a plurality of stored optimum braking patterns to a device which controls the application of the brake according to the output from the memory, the memory output being in response to an excess train speed.

  • Patent number: 4436179
Abstract: A noise control apparatus for reducing a sound volume of a noise propagating from a noise source such as a railroad includes a sound arresting wall placed apart from the noise source. Means for shifting in phase and refracting the acoustic wave of the noise is disposed at substantially the top of the noise arresting wall. The above means, for example, has a plurality of passageways extending substantially along the propagating direction of the acoustic wave of the noise and the length of the passageways varies. Through the above means, a part of the acoustic wave from the noise source is refracted and the phase thereof is shifted to be a refracted propagating sound, which thereafter interferes with the other part of the acoustic wave directly from the noise source to thereby reduce a sound volume to a great extent.

  • Patent number: 4436313
Abstract: A sealing device for a ship's propeller shaft installed around the propeller shaft in which longitudinally spaced annular iron pole blocks, and circularly spaced permanent magnets fixed between the blocks are mounted in a cylindrical housing surrounding the propeller shaft, and a magnetic fluid fills gaps between the magnets and the annular iron pole blocks and either a liner mounted about the shaft or the shaft itself. The magnetic fluid serves as a sealant and completes a magnetic circuit which maintains a well defined thickness of magnetic fluid sealant and a high pressure seal even under great mechanical stress, thereby minimizing frictional power loss and wear to the propeller shaft or sleeves which are conventionally shrink-fitted thereto.

  • Patent number: 4381478
Abstract: In a magnetic floating type of super high speed transportation system using a linear synchronous motor system as its drive system in which a field magnet is carried on a train and a series of armature coils are provided along a track, a speed of a train is regulated under control of a frequency converter of the variable frequency and voltage type for supplying power to the armature coils. For the speed regulation, a relative position of the field magnet to the armature coils is detected to form a train of position detecting pulses. A reference frequency pattern with a frequency corresponding to a speed command is formed. A phase difference between the reference frequency pattern and the position detecting pulse train is detected. A propulsion force command of a linear motor is obtained by setting different limit values in the positive and negative parts of the phase difference signal. A sinusoidal current waveform pattern is formed in synchronism with the position detecting pulse train.
