    Abstract: A clutch drum in an automatic transmission houses therein a clutch mechanism through which the clutch drum is driven. The clutch drum is rotatably mounted on a fixed shaft forming part of a transmission housing and comprised of a drum main body having a cylindrical drum section which is spaced from and coaxial with the fixed shaft. The drum main body is formed of aluminum alloy. A cylindrical friction material is fixed on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical drum section and frictionally contactable with a brake band wrapped around the drum main body. The brake is applied to the clutch drum upon tightening the brake band.

    Abstract: The input gear of the secondary gear train is mounted on a hollow input shaft and the reaction element of a planetary gear set is connected with a multi-plate brake and one-way clutch, which are disposed on the opposite side of the input gear with respect to the planetary gear set, by way of a shaft which passes through the hollow input shaft. The multi-plate brake is disposed radially outward of the one-way clutch.The output gear of the gear train is supported by bearings which are disposed on either side thereof. The bearing on the inboard side of the final gear is arranged to have a diameter which is larger than the output gear and supported in a wall portion of the transmission case per se.

    Abstract: A speed change control device for an automatic transmission is shown which comprises first, second and third shift valves, each having two switching positions for selectively carrying out application and releasing of hydraulic pressure to and from an oil chamber of a hydraulically operated friction element. First and second solenoid valves are employed each controlling an output of hydraulic pressure in accordance with an electric signal applied thereto. The first solenoid valve outputs a hydraulic pressure for controlling the switching operation of the second shift valve, and the second solenoid valve outputs a hydraulic pressure for controlling the switching operation of the first shift valve. A passage structure is further employed which applies the hydraulic pressure from the second solenoid valve to the third shift valve to control the switching operation of the same only when the second shift valve assumes one given position.

According to this control, a predetermined pattern of variation of the pressurized hydraulic fluid is changed to a second pattern upon detecting the occurrence of a change in an engine load beyond a predetermined degree, and the pressurized hydraulic fluid follows the second pattern temporarily, i.e., for a period of time.

    Abstract: An apparatus for operating a lockup clutch to provide a controlled degree of slip between the impeller and the turbine in an automatic transmission. A gear ratio is calculated from a relationship specifying the gear ratio as a function of selected gear change mode and time elapsed after the selected gear change mode starts. The calculated gear ratio is used, along with the transmission output shaft speed to calculate a speed of rotation of the turbine. The lockup clutch is operated in a slip lockup mode to bring a difference between the engine and turbine speeds to a predetermined value. Engine speed changes are monitored to measure a time interval required for the gear change of the selected mode. The relationship is modified to correct the gear ratio stored for the selected gear change mode based upon the measured time interval.

    Abstract: A lubricating arrangement for an automatic power transmission has a lubricant circuit for communication between a pressurized fluid source and a component of the automatic power transmission to be lubricated. A flow restriction means is disposed within the lubricating circuit. The flow restriction means incorporated in the lubricating arrangement introduces a twin choke construction for providing sufficient magnitude of flow restriction for the lubricating fluid supplied from the pressurized fluid source for preventing excess fluid from flowing through the lubricating circuit which causes a drop of supply pressure and/or flow rate in the pressurized fluid source and blocking of the fluid flow path due to accumulation of foreign matters, such as dust, dirt and so forth. The flow restriction means comprises a first choke and a second choke arranged in tandem fashion across a fluid reservoir provided therebetween.

There occurs a deviation of this predetermined parameter from the actual amount of torque supplied to the automatic transmission when the auxiliary device is in operation. Thus, a sensor output of a throttle opening degree sensor is corrected when the auxiliary device is in operation and then set as the predetermined parameter although the sensor output unaltered is set as the predetermined parameter when the auxiliary device is not in operation.

    Abstract: An exhaust braking control apparatus for use with an automotive vehicle having an engine and an automatic transmission. The exhaust braking control apparatus includes a control valve situated for movement within an engine exhaust passage to control exhaust gas flow from the engine to the atmosphere. A control unit is provided to produce an engine braking command signal when the automatic transmission is in low gear for engine braking. In the presence of the engine braking command signal, the control valve moves in a closing direction to provide an engine braking effect. The control unit includes an inhibit circuit arranged to interrupt the engine braking command signal during a gear change produced in the automatic transmission from a higher gear to a lower gear. Such a change down is produced when the vehicle speed is less than a reference value. In the event of failure of the inhibit circuit, the reference value is changed to a smaller value.
