  • Patent number: 6513636
Abstract: A clutch drum is constituted by a two-piece construction of an inner drum and outer drum. The inner drum is provided with a step at the corner from its disc part to its outer tube, and the vertical wall of the outer drum is butt welded to the step. The inner drum serves as the cylinder for a piston, enabling its inner circumferential surface up to its tip to be utilized as a piston sliding surface of sufficient length even though the outer tube is short. An extension of the piston having a part for applying pressure to the friction plates is offset towards the vertical wall of the outer drum after crossing the tip of the outer tube, thereby further shortening the length of the clutch as a whole in the axial direction while guaranteeing the stroke gap between itself and the clutch hub.

  • Patent number: 6508348
Abstract: A transmission unit for a hybrid vehicle has a single-shaft structure wherein the input from an electromagnetic clutch to a motor and a CVT is effected through a single input shaft. The input shaft is supported by first and second bearing members on both sides of the CVT, and a third bearing member provided between the input shaft and a first partition wall. Each of the first and second bearing members is fit in a hole of the housing in a manner to prevent radial motion of the input shaft, whereas the third bearing member is surrounded by a clearance for allowing radial motion of the input shaft relative to the housing. In the clearance, there is provided a seal member for preventing passage of foreign objects from the clutch chamber into the motor chamber.

  • Patent number: 6481553
Abstract: An automatic transmission formed so that the axial displacement of a clutch drum is restricted without causing an increase in the manufacturing cost and number of man-hour. A first spline is formed on an inner circumferential surface of a carrier of first planetary gear mechanism, and a second spline meshed with the first spline is formed on an outer circumferential surface of a free end section of a hub portion of a clutch drum of a clutch. The second spline is formed by cutting process, and has a diagonally cut rising portion at a terminal end thereof. When the clutch drum is displaced from its set position toward an intermediate partition wall by a predetermined amount, an inclined surface of the cut rising portion of the second spline on the hub portion engages a radially inner corner edge portion of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 6482126
Abstract: A control unit controls a lockup duty ratio to be maintained at a first duty ratio, which is the minimum value within such a range as not to slip a lockup clutch, during a period of time since a decision is made to perform a shifting operation until an actual shifting operation is started. The control unit then lowers the lockup duty ratio to a corrected (learned) second duty ratio and gradually lowers the lockup duty ratio from the second duty ratio at a predetermined rate of change so that a slip revolutionary speed can be equal to a target slip revolutionary speed when the shifting operation is finished. Alternatively, the control unit corrects the rate of change while maintaining the second duty ratio at a uniform value so that the slip revolutionary speed can be equal to the target slip revolutionary speed when the shifting operation is finished.

  • Patent number: 6478132
Abstract: An output shaft of an automatic transmission is constituted by a first output shaft outputting a driving force from a gear train of an automatic transmission and a second output shaft connected to the first output shaft so as to be movable in an axial direction and to be fixed in a rotational direction with respect to the first output shaft. The second output shaft is integral with a parking gear which fixes the second output shaft in rotation when the automatic transmission is set at a parking position. This arrangement improves applicability to the change of a longitudinal dimension of an automatic transmission and suppresses vibrations from being inputted from driving wheels to a gear train.

  • Patent number: 6441506
Abstract: In a parallel hybrid vehicle employing a parallel hybrid system, using both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor generator for propulsion, a desired motor/generator torque is map-retrieved based on both the engine speed and throttle opening from a predetermined characteristic map in a fashion of feedforward processing. The signal indicative of the desired motor/generator torque is subjected to a low-pass filter that passes signals included in a frequency band lower than an oscillation frequency of powertrain torsional vibrations to remove the powertrain vibration frequency components. The map is preprogrammed so that the desired motor/generator torque is set at zero in a specified speed range lower than an engine idle speed.

  • Patent number: 6432019
Abstract: A forward clutch choke (251) having an internal long narrow path is provided in an oil path which feeds a clutch pressure (PFWD/C) to an oil chamber (604) of a forward clutch mechanism (6). The choke restricts a flow of the hydraulic oil into the oil chamber at a low temperature where the viscosity of the hydraulic oil is high to thereby increase a time required for the oil chamber to be filled with the oil, which prevents the clutch mechanism (6) from being engaged tightly in a short time to thereby prevent an instantaneous rise in the output shaft torque. Since the viscosity of the hydraulic oil is low at normal temperature and the choke functions as an orifice, the clutch mechanism is smoothly engaged tightly based on the operation of an accumulator concerned (FIG. 4).
