    Abstract: A control device of controlling a vehicle that includes an automatic transmission is provided with a control unit. The automatic transmission includes a power transmission mechanism with an engaging element, and a variator connected in series to the power transmission mechanism. The control unit of this device completes engagement of the engaging element after downshifting of the variator is completed when at least an accelerator pedal opening becomes not smaller than a predetermined opening, during neutral running control which brings the power transmission mechanism into a power shut-off state during running of the vehicle.

During a deceleration through a second speed stage of the sub transmission, when the variator is a state in which the variator is at a lowest gear (speed) ratio, a down-shift in which the sub transmission is forced to perform the gear-shift from a second speed stage to a first speed stage, with the variator maintained at the lowest gear (speed) ratio.

Said engined car is provided with a lock-up control means for controlling the engagement/disengagement of the lock-up clutch (3) and a gear change mode switch-controlling means (FIG. 8) for performing control to switch between a “continuously variable gear change mode” and a “DSTEP gear change mode.” While traveling, the gear change mode switch-controlling means (FIG. 8) prohibits gear change by the “DSTEP gear change mode” when the detected oil temperature is at or below a lock-up engagement-permitting threshold for permitting engagement of the lock-up clutch (3) and allows gear change by the “DSTEP gear change mode” when the detected oil temperature is higher than the lock-up engagement-permitting threshold.

    Abstract: An initial variation learning control is executed when a learning condition is satisfied each time the learning condition is satisfied, with the aim of absorbing initial variations of manufacturing errors or variations of components of a second clutch (CL2). When the number of times of learning control is counted and this becomes a predetermined number (e.g. five times), after that, a deterioration variation learning control, which is equivalent to the initial variation learning control, is executed only once a trip from ON of a key switch to OFF of the key switch. With this, a frequency of execution of the learning control can be reduced, and the number of times of the learning can be reduced. It is therefore possible to suppress energy consumption and improve energy efficiency in stand-by pressure learning control of the second clutch that serves as a starter clutch.
