  • Patent number: 6988781
Abstract: A cargo container of unitary construction surrounds a cargo hold and has an opening into the cargo hold defined by an edge. A flange extends along the edge of the opening and projects into the cargo hold to form a seat. A door having a panel defined by a border covers the opening. A bite extends along the border of the panel and projects away from the panel to contact the seat. When the door is covering the opening, the bite is positioned against the seat and is juxtaposed with the flange. In response to an explosive detonation in the cargo hold, the bite is forced against the seat and transfers the explosive force from the door to the container. If a seal is present on the seat, the bite is forced against the seal to form an airtight lock in the cargo container.

  • Patent number: 6371000
Abstract: An electronic vehicle disabler system and method uses a current supply capable of delivering an electrical current to a fleeing or moving vehicle that inhibits self-propelled movement of the vehicle. The electrical current is delivered by establishing a momentary forward current path between the vehicle and the current supply, at the same time that a return current path between the vehicle and current supply is established. The forward and reverse current paths may, e.g., include electrically conductive wires or electrically conductive streams of fluid or gas. The forward and reverse current paths are electrically coupleable to the fleeing vehicle through a variety of direct conductive linkages that are temporarily or permanently laid down on a roadway over which the fleeing vehicle passes, or that are coupled to the fleeing vehicle from a pursuing vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5663710
Abstract: An improved visibility detector and method emit infrared radiation away from an infrared emitter; detect an amount of infrared radiation backscattered by an airborne visibility impeding agent; and generate a backscatter signal in response to the amount detected. In one embodiment, the detector detects an amount of the infrared radiation that is not backscattered; generates a reference signal in response thereto; determines an actual amount of the infrared radiation backscattered; determines whether the actual amount exceeds a prescribed threshold; and generates an alarm signal in event the actual amount is determined to exceed the prescribed threshold.

  • Patent number: 5625525
Abstract: A device and method for stunning a human or other living animal employs a nozzle or other such means through which a conductive fluid stream can be discharged toward the living animal; a current supply that is electrically coupled to the conductive fluid stream; and a grounding conductor that is coupled between the current supply and a ground potential. When the conductive fluid stream is discharged toward the human or other living animal and impacts the human or other living animal, the current supply passes a current through the human or other living animal when the human or other living animal becomes electrically coupled between the conductive fluid stream and the ground potential. The current is of sufficient magnitude to stun the human or other living animal. As a result, the human or other living animal is stunned when impacted with the conductive fluid stream.

  • Patent number: 5599082
Abstract: A hardened load carrying device includes a unitarily constructed container for holding the load. The container has an opening which is partially bordered by a slot that includes opposed crooked thumbs which project into the channel of the slot. A door for covering the opening of the container has a pair of opposed crooked fingers which are attached along part of the edge of the door to establish a bite. To enclose the load in the container the bite of the door is slidingly received into the slot bordering the opening to cover the opening and engage the crooked fingers of the door with the crooked thumbs of the slot. In an alternate embodiment the crooked thumbs of the slot are replaced by opposed lips which extend inwardly to establish a T-shaped or rounded slot, and the crooked fingers and the door are replaced by a flange which is slidingly received into the T-shaped or rounded slot. Any joints which are established between panels of the container are reinforced using a double thickness of material.

  • Patent number: 5592170
Abstract: A frequency-agile, narrow-instantaneous bandwidth radar system detects objects, and discriminates between different types of objects, from a safe stand-off distance. Transmit circuitry transmits a train of continuous wave signals in a multitude of stepped operating frequencies that illuminates the target area. Return signals from the target area are received through at least a pair of spaced-apart receive antennas. Signal receive/processing circuitry coupled to the spaced-apart receive antennas selectively combines and processes the return signals to identify variations in the received signals indicative of the presence of a specific type of object. At each of the stepped frequencies, the system noise and the clutter of the signals is reduced by averaging and smoothing the incoming data and the cross-power spectrum at each frequency is calculated. Using the information of the power spectra of all frequencies, the Mahalanobis distance is defined and the presence and classification of a target is determined.

  • Patent number: 4487583
Abstract: A weapons engagement simulation system includes a weapon simulator having a laser transmitter for transmitting pulses of directed coherent light in a characteristic temporal pattern and a receiver garment. A plurality of photosensitive detectors distributed over each of a plurality of discrete zones on the outside of the garment respond to light from the laser transmitter by producing electrical detection pulses systematically related thereto. Comparators compare the electrical detection pulses from the photosensitive detectors in a respective zone with a predetermined threshold level and produce discriminated detection pulses when said electrical detection pulses are greater than the threshold level. A decoder compares the temporal patterns of the discriminated detection pulses with a temporal pattern characteristic of the laser transmitter and produces a hit signal corresponding to a respective corresponding zone when the compared patterns correspond.
