  • Patent number: 5723013
Abstract: An implant for replacing a removed vertebra includes an outer sleeve having a longitudinal axis and a peripheral inner surface. The inner surface has a series of axially adjoining, peripheral grooves lending the inner surface a sawtooth-shaped configuration when viewing the inner sleeve in axial section. The implant further includes an inner sleeve having a longitudinal axis and a peripheral outer surface. The outer surface has a series of axially adjoining, peripheral ribs lending the outer surface a sawtooth-shaped configuration when viewing the inner sleeve in axial section. The inner sleeve is telescopingly received in the outer sleeve such that the series of axially adjoining, peripheral ribs of the outer surface engage into the series of axially adjoining, peripheral grooves of the surface in an interfitting relationship.

  • Patent number: 5531554
Abstract: A fastener for insertion through aligned holes of two components to be secured to one another by the fastener. The fastener includes a shaft portion having an end; a fastener head disposed at said end; and a retaining arrangement for maintaining the fastener captive by the components. The retaining arrangement includes a conical collar situated between the shaft portion and the fastener head. Further, the conical collar surrounds the axis and has a maximum diameter base oriented toward the fastener head. The conical collar is provided with radial recesses. The retaining arrangement also has a neck part surrounding the shaft axis and disposed between the fastener head and the conical collar.

  • Patent number: 5527315
Abstract: A device for spinal osteosynthesis includes an elongated bar having two parallel, spaced longitudinal slots extending parallel to the bar length. The slots define a central bar branch and two side bar branches flanking the central bar branch. A plurality of fasteners extend from the bar; each fastener has a shank to be implanted; a head provided at an end of the shank; and a groove provided in the fastener head. The groove has a bottom and divides the head into two leg portions. The central bar branch is received by the groove and is in engagement with the bottom thereof. The leg portions extend through the slots and straddle the central bar branch. A nut is secured to the head of each fastener and abuts a surface of the bar for tightening the fastener to the bar.

  • Patent number: 5522903
Abstract: A finger prosthesis includes a first screw to be received in an intramedullary canal of a phalange. The first screw includes a first head defining a first longitudinal bore therein. There is provided a second screw to be received in an intramedullary canal of another, adjoining phalange. The second screw includes a second head defining a second longitudinal bore therein. The prosthesis further has a first joint part having a convex semi-cylindrical surface, a transverse slot and a bore hole, a pivot pin held in the bore hole and traversing the transverse slot. The first piston is secured to the pivot pin for swinging motion in the transverse slot. The first piston is received in the first longitudinal bore for sliding motions therein. There is further provided a second joint part situated between the first head and the first joint part and having a concave semi-cylindrical surface slidingly contacting the convex semi-cylindrical surface of the first joint part.

  • Patent number: 5514132
Abstract: A spinal osteosynthesis device includes a plurality of implants, each having a yoke and an anchoring arrangement carried by the yoke for securing the implant to a selected vertebra. The device further has a connecting bar crossing each yoke; and a plurality of clamps tightening the bar to each yoke. Each clamp has a clamp body; and a pair of generally parallel-oriented claws spaced from one another by a slot and extending from the clamp body. The claws partially surround the respective yoke. The clamp body carries a tightening arrangement for rocking the clamp body about the connecting bar to tilt the claws toward the connecting bar so that the yoke is clamped thereagainst.
