Publication number: 20130148684Abstract: Multi-mode diode emitters are stacked in a staircase formation to provide a spatially-mulitplexed output. Improved coupling efficiency is achieved by providing tilted collimated output beams that determine an effective step height of the stepped structure. Since the effective step height is dependent on the tilt angle, a variable number of emitters can be used inside packages having a same physical step height, while still attaining high coupling efficiency.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2011Publication date: June 13, 2013Applicant: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: James Yonghong GUO, Jay A. Publication number: 20130124717Abstract: Systems and methods for managing communication in an IP network between a server and a probe that does not maintain an IP address by selectively restricting which IP addresses that are identified as active in the network may be borrowed for the probes. Restriction of IP addresses may include a black list to exclude specific IP addresses, a white list from which IP addresses can be drawn or both. This permits control over which IP addresses may be borrowed by probes, reducing false alarms, alerts or other network concerns caused by unexpected IP traffic on a particular IP address in the network.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2011Publication date: May 16, 2013Applicant: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Michael Stevens, Samuel M. Patent number: 8439403Abstract: A printed article is disclosed having a light transmissive substrate having a reverse printed region on a surface thereof in the form of a plurality of very closely spaced printed lines or regions. The printed regions and spaces therebetween are subsequently flood coated with special effect ink such as optically variable ink wherein the ink particle size is on average greater than the gap between reverse printed regions. The image is viewed from the non-printed side of the substrate and very fine lines of the special effect flood coated special effect ink appear as very clear sharp lines having a fine resolution. This eliminates the typical jagged edges that would otherwise be seen if the inked region was not present. This effect is due to the first printed inked regions or lines forming a mask through which the flood coated ink is seen.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2007Date of Patent: May 14, 2013Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Wilfred C. Patent number: 8442365Abstract: An optical subassembly for low-feedback coupling of light from a light source into an optical waveguide such as an optical fiber is described. The optical subassembly has an aspherical lens with surface sag having a rotationally symmetrical sag component without having a cone sag component, and a rotationally asymmetrical helical component for reducing coupling of light reflected from the optical fiber tip back into the laser aperture by causing a significant portion of the reflected light to encircle the laser aperture. The lens shape and the height of the helix are selected so that tight focusing onto the fiber tip is preserved, while the optical feedback is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2009Date of Patent: May 14, 2013Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventor: Luke Graham

Patent number: 8437086Abstract: The invention relates to sources of optical radiation wherein polarized radiation from first and second rows of light emitters is first collimated and combined into two combined beam using first and second rows of collimating and beam re-directing elements, respectively, and then polarization multiplexed to form a polarization-multiplexed output beam. In order to reduce the footprint, emitters of the first and second emitter rows are disposed in an interleaved, staggered arrangement, and the second row of collimating and beam re-directing elements is disposed in a space between the first emitter row and the first row of collimating and beam re-directing elements.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2011Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Jihua Du, James Yonghong Guo, Lei Xu, Richard L. Patent number: 8427966Abstract: A configurable probe takes advantage of inter-dependent probe control elements that pass data control signals from one controelement to the other for controlling data extraction. The control elements operate in parallel on one word at a time, based upon a state established by one of the control elements. The data to be considered is established by timing offsets dependant upon packet header lengths, and a function to be performed on the data is controlled by individual control units based upon template information individual to each control element. The probe is agnostic about protocols. It operates on stream of packet words and executes its functions according to defined templates. It is the host that controls the probe and determines what protocol header to parse and how. The controlling host instructs the probe via defined templates that act as state machine definitions what to do and when.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2007Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventor: Slawomir K. Patent number: 8426798Abstract: An electrical termination circuit for a traveling wave optoelectronic device is disclosed. The electrical termination circuit is constructed to reflect a portion of a radio-frequency signal back into the optoelectronic device. The reflected signal is out of phase with the applied radio-frequency signal at a frequency of a detrimental spectral feature or a bump in an electro-optical transfer characteristic of the optoelectronic device. The amplitude and the phase of the reflected signal are selected so as to suppress the detrimental spectral feature without a significant reduction in the efficiency of electro-optical or optical-electrical transformation of the optoelectronic device.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2010Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventors: Brian Higgins, Gregory J. Patent number: 8427974Abstract: A method and an apparatus for identifying an origin of captured DOCSIS upstream bursts are disclosed. Upstream bursts are captured without knowing their allocated time slots in advance. Information from an upstream channel descriptor is used to generate RF waveforms of upstream burst preambles, which are then correlated to the captured upstream waveforms to determine the type of captured upstream bursts without having to decode the latter. Once the type of the captured upstream bursts is determined, information from the upstream channel descriptor is further used to demodulate and decode the upstream burst, so that CPE MAC addresses can be extracted. From the extracted CPE MAC addresses, the origin of the captured upstream bursts can be identified. The identification of origins of captured upstream bursts assists in locating faults in the cable network.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2010Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: JDS Uniphase CorporationInventor: Ching-Chang Liao
