  • Patent number: 6588724
Abstract: An on-off valve that operates between an open position and a closed position, particularly with high-pressure working fluids. has a valve body that defines a valve cavity. A valve poppet is slidably mounted within the valve cavity. A bushing is mounted with respect to the valve body and divides the valve cavity into a first chamber and a second chamber. One end of the valve poppet is positioned within the first chamber and an opposite end of the valve poppet is positioned within the second chamber. A spring urges the valve poppet into the first chamber. An actuating pin is slidably mounted with respect to the valve body. In the closed position, the actuating pin seals the passage of the valve poppet. An actuator is used to operate the actuating pin between the open position and the closed position of the on-off valve.

  • Patent number: 6431465
Abstract: An apparatus and process for generating a pulsed high-speed fluid jet that can be used to extinguish fires and/or to launch a projectile. A valve, such as an instant on-off valve, preferably operates in combination with a pressure accumulator. In a controlled manner, a pulsed fluid jet is generated and directed through a nozzle. The nozzle can draw into the fluid-jet an additive. The nozzle may also be used to launch a projectile using the fluid jet as a propellant.

  • Patent number: 6206649
Abstract: A fluid pressurization apparatus utilizing a slanted cam disk to oscillate, or to oscillate and rotate a set of piston assemblies arranged in a circle. The motion of the pistons is utilized to pressurize fluid or to perform work. The piston assemblies have multiple elements configured to allow the plungers to be engaged or disengaged to the motion of a disk by manipulating a working fluid introduced into the apparatus. By virtue of these disengageable plungers, the apparatus can be disabled and resumed at will. This apparatus is particularly well suited for pressurizing liquids such as water for high-pressure and high-flow applications.

  • Patent number: 6179574
Abstract: A fluid transfer apparatus utilizing a slanted cain disk to oscillate and rotate a set of pistons arranged in a circle. Channels associated with the pistons and piston housing effect the transfer of fluid from a first location to a second location, as well as the pressurization or depressurization of the fluid, during movement of the pistons. The apparatus can be used as a high-pressure fluid pump, a fluid-powered motor, a fluid distribution valve, or another fluid transfer device.

  • Patent number: 5927329
Abstract: An apparatus and method for generating a high-speed pulsed fluid jet wherein the apparatus has a valve cylinder that forms a valve cavity. A piston is slidably mounted within the valve cavity. A plunger with an internal chamber is fixed with respect to the piston. The internal chamber communicates with the valve cavity. An end plug is sealably mounted with respect the plunger. The end plug has a bore through which a valve stem is sealably and slidably mounted. The valve stem is mounted to slide within the internal chamber, the bore of the end plug and a valve chamber of a cylinder. The valve chamber communicates with a pressurized fluid source. A valve poppet is attached to the valve stem. A spring or compressed gas is used to exert a bias force which normally urges the valve poppet into a releasable seated position within a valve port of an end plug which is sealably mounted with respect to a fluid cylinder that forms the valve chamber.

  • Patent number: 5799688
Abstract: A pressure valve having a fluid inlet, a first chamber, a throughbore, a second chamber, a fluid outlet and a valve stem. The valve stem is mounted within a valve body and has several different diameters. A pressure condition within one or more of the chambers acts upon the valve stem to urge the stem into either an open position or a closed position, depending upon the design of the valve. The valve is particularly suitable for bypass valves, pressure regulating valves, over-pressure protection valves, lost-pressure protection valves, and other pressure-sensitive valve applications.

  • Patent number: 5794854
Abstract: A nozzle cone and an oscillating fluid-jet nozzle system capable of producing relatively high-velocity, high-frequency oscillating fluid jets useful in waterjetting and other industrial spray applications. The oscillating fluid jetting apparatus includes a conduit and a follower which is mounted with respect to the conduit. A cam mechanically drives the follower so that the cam moves with respect to the follower. A portion of the conduit is secured with respect to a housing. An inlet block is secured with respect to the housing. An inlet end portion of the conduit is secured with respect to the inlet block. The inlet block has a fluid inlet opening which is in communication with the conduit.

  • Patent number: 5524821
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a high-pressure fluid jet which preferably draws a material, such as an additive, into the fluid jet. A working pressure of the fluid is increased to generate a high-pressure fluid. The high-pressure fluid is stored within a high-pressure chamber of an accumulator. The stored high-pressure fluid is discharged through a discharge port of the accumulator. The pressure of the high-pressure fluid within the high-pressure chamber is maintained by decreasing the volume of the high-pressure gas chamber as the fluid passes through the discharge port. The high-pressure fluid is then transported into an injection nozzle for forming a high-pressure fluid jet. Within the injection nozzle, a material is combined with the high-pressure fluid jet. The combined fluid and material jet is then discharged from the injection nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5297777
Abstract: A flow control valve for instant on-off operations with gases or liquids at relatively high pressures, such as pressures between 10,000 psi and 100,000 psi. The valve includes a valve body having two or more valve cavities in communication with each other and defined by two end seal assemblies and one or more valve port seal assemblies. An elongated, round, sliding valve stem is centrally located through the seal assemblies. End plugs are used to support the end seal assemblies. The valve stem has fluid passages which are preferably machined at a mid-section of the valve stem. The valve stem is slid parallel to its longitudinal axis to allow or prevent communication between the valve cavities by way of the fluid passage of the valve stem. Two opposite ends of the valve stem are either not exposed to the working fluid or are exposed to different pressures of the working fluid.
