  • Patent number: 4529168
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a double shut-off valve device which is specifically intended to eliminate the consequences of erosion and the resulting lack of perfectly tight sealing. This device consists of two concentric valve components, namely an inner component, (3), and an outer component, (4), which, in a closed position, respectively rest upon seats, (5) and (6), so as to halt the flow of fluid between sections of a pipe, (1) and (2). Functioning of these components is controlled by a rod (10) which is directly connected to the outer valve component (4), and by a flexible bellows (7) attached to the inner valve component (3). Under these circumstances, the inner valve component (3) halts the flow of fluid, and the outer valve component (4), which is not subject to fluid pressure, can provide tight sealing without erosion. Opening of both valve components occurs simultaneously on account of the accompanying shoulders, (8) and (9).

  • Patent number: 4529172
Abstract: This method is intended to permit installing of a cable of considerable length within a conduit, by means of a hauling line, under the most favorable possible conditions, so as to eliminate friction between the cable and the inner surface of the conduit, and, specifically, with reduction of tractive force to be applied to the cable. In accordance with the present invention, the aforementioned method consists of attaching the cable to a hauling line, according to its full length, at locations whose positions are to be determined in relation to resistance to tension affecting sections of the cable demarcated in this manner, so that, with the cable possessing some slackness, none of the sections of said cable shall be affected by stress affecting the preceding section, and so that tractive force shall be distributed along successive sections of the cable while it is being installed.

  • Patent number: 4515495
Abstract: A linking arrangement for a shaft and a moving part, such as a fly-wheel, rotating about the same axis includes two coaxial rims fastened to the shaft and moving part, respectively, with radial notches situated on opposed surfaces of the rims that are fixed in contact with one another. The notches provide housings for a set of cylindrical pins so that rotary motion can be transmitted between the shaft and the moving part. Stress-relieving grooves are provided at the bottom portions of the notches so as to permit constant contact between the rims and between the notches and the pins regardless of differential expansion of components of the linking arrangement. A principal application of the linking arrangement is to connect a shaft to a fly-wheel or a shaft to a rotary pump impeller.

  • Patent number: 4471966
Abstract: To increase performance levels of pressurized water pumps, a hydrostatic joint arrangement (pressure seal) permits a controlled flow to occur between two chambers containing the same fluid placed under different pressures. This arrangement includes a metal bearing (3) attached to a rotary movable shaft (4) and a float (5) which is capable of unrestricted axial movement, whereby minimum flow of fluid between the bearing and the float can produce sufficient force for gradually raising the float (5), while maintaining a pressure seal. The bottom portion (7) of the float (5) contains openings (8) which are connected to a source of pressurized fluid by means of intake ducts (9), thereby to provide fluid flow between the bearing and the float regardless of the pressure difference between the two chambers.

  • Patent number: 4408470
Abstract: The invention involves a procedure having three key stages: In the first stage, just prior to the introduction of the metal into stand (n+1), the value of the rolling torque in stand (n) is determined and recorded. Then, in the second stage, when the metal is introduced into stand (n+1), the value of the rolling torque in stand (n) is held constant by controlling the speed regulator of stand (n) up to the time the metal is introduced into stand (n+2). Finally, in the third stage, which continues until the rolling operation in stand (n) has been completed, the voluminal flow of the metal is held constant at the line of each stand by applying a multiplier coefficient to the signal representing the ratio between the speeds of two successive stands.
