  • Patent number: 6535613
Abstract: An air flow control device is positioned relative to the throughbore in the pole piece of the motor structure of a speaker, such that the flow of air entering and leaving a cavity overlying the voice coil and pole piece is directed along a flow path which passes in thermal communication with at least a portion of the interior surface of the former of the voice coil opposite the wire winding on the exterior surface of the former.

  • Patent number: 6501844
Abstract: A loudspeaker and method of assembling same is disclosed in which the motor structure and frame are interconnected, the voice coil is initially secured within the magnetic gap of the motor by the lower suspension and then the diaphragm and surround are installed by first affixing the surround to a flange at the upper end of the frame so that the outer diameter of the surround is concentric to its inner diameter, and then inserting the lower end of the diaphragm within a pool of adhesive carried by a well structure mounted to the exterior surface of the voice coil such that the diaphragm is allowed to move in both a lateral direction and a vertical direction within the well structure while the adhesive cures, thus maintaining the original shape of the surround and substantially preventing misalignment of the voice coil within the magnetic gap of the motor during operation of the loudspeaker.

  • Patent number: 6441685
Abstract: An amplifier circuit (300, 400, 500) employs negative feedback and a method (600) for providing such feedback to reduce distortion and/or an output impedance of the amplifier circuit, without adversely impacting the overall stability of the amplifier circuit. The amplifier circuit includes a forward path and a feedback path. The forward path includes at least one amplifier (301, 305) arranged in series with an output lowpass filter (307). The amplifier receives a feedback-compensated input signal and amplifies the input signal to produce an amplified signal. The feedback path includes a lowpass filter (311), a highpass filter (313), and a summing arrangement (315) that selectively include and exclude the output lowpass filter from the feedback loop. The feedback lowpass filter is operably coupled to an output of the output lowpass filter and attenuates high frequency components of the amplifier circuit's output signal to produce a lowpass-filtered feedback signal.

  • Patent number: 6330340
Abstract: A loudspeaker is provided including a diaphragm having a lower end formed with an inner surface mounted to the voice coil former, an outer surface spaced from the inner surface and a number of circumferentially-spaced vent bores formed between the inner and outer surfaces which vent a dust cap cavity. Alternatively, the lower end of the diaphragm is mounted to the outer surface of the voice coil in position so that a deflector formed in such lower end is located in the path of a flow of air entering and leaving the dust cap cavity through vent bores formed in the voice coil former to direct such air flow over the wire winding of the voice coil and obtain at least some cooling thereof in addition to venting the dust cap cavity.

  • Patent number: 6327371
Abstract: A loudspeaker comprising a frame, a motor structure, an upper suspension, a lower suspension, a diaphragm, and, a voice coil carrying a wire winding and being formed with a number of circumferentially spaced vent bores spaced from the winding. An adaptor is provided having a wall with a first end mounted to the former of the voice coil, a second end, and an intermediate portion extending between the first and second ends which overlies the vent bores of the former and is radially offset thus forming a passage between the wall of the adaptor and a portion of the outer surface of the former. A ledge is formed at the second end of the adaptor wall for mounting the free ends of the diaphragm and lower suspension, which, in turn, position the voice coil within the magnetic gap in the motor structure.
