  • Patent number: 7296953
Abstract: A deep hole drill comprising a cutter carrier, a replaceable cutting insert and at least one replaceable guide strip. The cutter carrier is embodied in such a way that it can be used for a predetermined nominal diameter range. In order to adjust the deep hole drill to the various desired nominal diameters in a quicker and more precise manner, a separate kit consisting of a cutting insert and at least one guide strip is associated with each nominal diameter. Fixed stops are provided on the cutter carrier for said kit.

  • Patent number: 7134813
Abstract: A drilling tool comprising at least one machined groove and at least one web which extend from a tip of the tool to the shank of the tool. A main cutting edge and an inner cooling channel are formed on each web. Said cooling channel extends from the tip to an opposite drill end and has a continuously extending cross-sectional contour enclosing an imaginary circle with a center point. The cross-sectional contour preferably comprises two maximum curvature values whose distance to the drill axis is greater in the direction of a line between the center point and the drill axis or equal to the distance of the center point to the drill axis. Preferably, minimum wall thicknesses exist between the inner cooling channel and (1) the outer periphery of the drill, (2) the machined surface and (3) the non-machined surface, between a minimum and a maximum.

Abstract: A method for the production of threads, especially internal threads, by means of a rotationally driven thread former, with which the thread pitches are driven in and out of the surface of the workpiece in a chipless fashion by pressure forming, in particular in and out of the inner surface of a workpiece bore.

  • Patent number: 7014393
Abstract: A clamping and adjustment apparatus for a cutting tool is described in which a plate-shaped cutter insert is prestressable and fastenable by means of a tension screw with its bottom surface against a seat surface such that it is supported with lateral wall sections in a positionally fixed manner on a cutter support. In order to allow precise adjustment of the cutter insert when little space is available, the clamping and adjustment apparatus has an adjustment wedge which can be actuated by means of a pressure screw in a direction (V) that extends essentially parallel to the seat surface. The adjustment wedge is accommodated in the cutter support in a form-fitted and displaceable manner. The cutter insert is supported on the adjustment wedge and can be adjusted by means of it. Moreover, a tool which is equipped with this clamping and adjustment apparatus is described as well as a tool cartridge which is used for it.

  • Patent number: 6948893
Abstract: The invention relates to a clamping system as a point of separation inside a tool or workpiece support system, or as an interface between a tool or workpiece support system and a machine tool for the detachable, non-positive connection of two clamping system parts. According to the present invention, it is proposed to coat at least one joining surface of a joining surface pairing between components of the clamping system parts that are to be connected in non-positive fashion with a layer of solid lubricant applied in an abrasion-resistant manner. On the one hand, this coating with solid lubricant enables significant improvement in the sliding characteristics of the joining surfaces, subjected to friction, of the components of the clamping system to be connected with one another. On the other hand, the joining surfaces, which are in addition subjected to a high surface pressure, exhibit improved corrosion characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6514019
Abstract: The invention relates to a boring tool comprising a retaining device which extends in the direction of a longitudinal axis and which comprises a shaft section and a head section. A groove which runs orthogonal in relation to the longitudinal axis and in the direction of a transversal axis is configured in said head section. The boring tool also comprises a cutting insert which is inserted in the groove, and comprises a clamping element. Said clamping element passes through a receiving boring configured in the cutting insert and through a boring configured in at least one of the groove limbs. In addition, the clamping element clamps the cutting insert against the at least one groove limb.

  • Patent number: 6457920
Abstract: A clamping system for detachably assembling two pieces. The clamping system includes a clamping device concentrically mounted in a receiving section which extends in a hollow shaft of one of the two pieces, when the two pieces are engaged. The clamping system further includes at least two clamping bodies which can move in opposite directions and an actuating device which actuates the clamping bodies. The clamping bodies can be engaged with an undercut clamping shoulder of the hollow shaft and disengaged therefrom, whereby a pressure force is applied between the flat surfaces of the two pieces to be assembled.

  • Patent number: 5658192
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for receiving a rotary body (412) in a centered and axially fixed manner, in particular a grinding wheel, on a supporting part (410) with an axial centering spike (418) which projects in to the central opening (416) of the rotary body (412) and a substantially radial collar (480) adjacent thereto, against which the rotary body (412) may be axially clamped. In order to allow extremely rapidly rotating bodies (412) to be clamped extremely accurately with simple hand grips, an elastically expandable, preferably thin-walled axial extension (440) is arranged between the centering spike (418) and the opening (416). The axial extension (440) is supported on the outer surface of the centering spike (418) and on the inner surface of the opening (416) and together with a clamping plate (436) forms a single adapter piece (434).

  • Patent number: 5599145
Abstract: A drill includes a substantially cylindrical holder (10) with a longitudinal axis (X) and a transverse axis (Y) perpendicular thereto, a drill tip (12) in which there is a groove (14) running along the transverse axis (Y) with a groove bottom (16) and groove sides (18',18"), and a cutting insert fitted in the groove having two main cuts (26',26") with forwardly adjacent cutting surfaces (32',32") and two rear surfaces (30',30") opposite a cutting surface on the other side of the transverse axis (Y). The holder has two bores (20',20") in a radial plane (R) of the drill, each of which is in the region of a rear surface (30',30") of the insert (25) and opens into a groove side (18',18"). The longitudinal axes (24',24") of the drillings (20',20") run at an acute angle to the groove side (18',18") and the adjacent rear surface (30',30") of the insert (25).
